Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has signed a law -law law, which requires all motorists to buy a radio license before purchasing cars insurance.
Some motorists have a resonance as they will have to pay $ 92 (68 pounds) annually to listen to the radio in their cars.
The introduction of the measure is part of the plan to expand the sources of profit for the state television, but critics say the license fee is too high, especially given the difficult economic situation.
A leading opposition figure Nelson Chamis said the new law was “Too Draconian, anti -cytized and soulless.”
Responding to the concern of motorists on social media, Nick Mangvan, a high -ranking official of the Ministry of Information, said the new law was “necessary” and “fair”.
Local media have about 1.2 million registered cars, but only 800,000 of them pay insurance.
The loss of Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is based on licensing income, as well as government grants, but also brings some profits through advertising.
But the television company is fighting for people to pay for their television and radio.
Critics are calling for a fee withdrawing, accusing the ZBC of the prejudiced coverage for the benefit of the management Zanu-PF.
The opposition complained about the unjust coverage of the broadcaster, especially during the elections. ZBC denied the charges.
According to the new broadcasting law, all motorists now have to pay a license on the radio before they can extend the car insurance or receive a license at the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara).
The changes recently approved by the parliament have led to $ 23 a quarter, which is $ 92 a year.
However, ZBC may give exceptions to those who have the right, including tourists visiting the country.
But the new amendment is aimed at eliminating the crevices and improving compliance with the requirements to have a license.
It prohibits all automotive insurance companies to sell their products to motorists who do not have a valid ZBC radio license unless they have a ZBC release certificate or the insured car does not have a plexus.
But the law caused sharp criticism from motorists and opposition groups, calling it a burden for taxpayers.
“Citizens enclose on the left, right and in the center, why is the citizen of this country deserve such unwavering and soulless leadership?” Chamis is located on X.
Another X user described this measure as an “unjust attack on motorists”.
