Zelensky suggests meeting Putin after Trump requires Ukraine direct negotiations with Russia

President of Ukrainian Valodimir Zelensky says he is ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin “Personally” in Istanbul on Thursday for negotiations to end the war.

His post appeared shortly after Donald Trump demanded Ukraine’s proposal to Putin’s direct negotiations between the two Turkish countries.

“There is no point in extending the killings. And I will wait for Putin on Turkie on Thursday. Personally,” Zelensky wrote.

He used to say that his country was open to negotiate with Russia, but only after the cessation of fire.

Western states called up to a 30-day pause in battles to start Monday After the European leaders led the so -called “coalition” willingly “met in Kiev on Saturday.

Putin’s proposal was followed by this intervention.

On Sunday, Trump posted on social networks that Ukraine should agree with this “right away”, and this will give clarity whether there is a way to stop the war.

“At least, they will be able to determine, perhaps a possible deal, and if not, European leaders and the United States will know where everything is standing and can act accordingly,” he said, “Make a meeting now!”

In his post on the X Zelensky, he hoped that Russia would agree with the ceasefire before the negotiations.

“We are waiting for a full and lasting ceasefire starting tomorrow to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy,” he said.

On Saturday, on Saturday, Putin invited Ukraine to take part in “serious negotiations” over the war, which began with a full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine in 2022.

Putin said he could “not rule out” the possibility that negotiations could lead to the fact that Russia and Ukraine agreed with the “new truce” – but did not resort to the calls directly to the 30 -day ceasefire.

The Russian leader said: “This would be the first step to a long -term, lasting peace, not a prologue to more armed hostilities after the Ukrainian armed forces will receive new weapons and staff, after a feverish trench and the creation of new team positions.”

Earlier, Moscow stated that Russia could consider ceasefire, the West must first stop its military assistance to Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine last held direct negotiations in March 2022 in Istanbul, shortly after Moscow launched its invasion.

On Saturday, the Ukrainian president spoke in Kiev Prime Minister Sir Keir, France, Emmanuel Macron, Germany Friedrich Merz and Donald Tusk, who later called Trump to discuss his plan.

Later, Sir Keir said the BBC that the US president was “absolutely understood” that their proposal for the immediate ceasefire was “a requirement to be satisfied.”

Appearing at a press conference with Zelensky, they warned that “new and massive” sanctions would be imposed on the Russian energy sectors, and the banking sectors should disagree with the unconditional 30-day ceasefire “in the air, at sea and on land.”
