President Floodimir Zelensky said Ukraine would dismiss any Russian proposal to abandon the Donbass region in exchange for ceasefire, warning that it could be used as a bridgehead for future attacks.
Zelensky spoke to US President Donald Trump and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
Trump insisted that any peaceful deal provides for a “some replacement of territories” and can see Russia accepting the entire Eastern Donbass region and keeping Crimea.
Meanwhile, Moscow’s troops continue their summer offensive, making a sudden craving near the eastern Ukrainian city of Dobropilia and moving 10 km (six miles) in a short period of time.
Zelensky confessed that the advance occurred in “several spots” but said that Kiev would quickly destroy the units involved in the attack.
No official details arose in what Vladimir Putin requires when he met with Donald Trump in Ancoridge on Friday.
Russia, which consists of the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, has been partly occupied by Russia since 2014.
In Moscow, almost all of Luhansk and about 70% of Donetsk are now, but on Tuesday, Zelenski confirmed that Ukraine would dismiss any proposal to leave the Donbass.
“If we give up on Donbas today – our fortifications, our terrain, the heights we run – we will clearly open for the Russians Bnets to prepare the offensive,” he said.
In his night address, Zelensky also stated that Moscow is preparing new offensives in three areas – Zaparitzhi, Pokrovsk and Novoplov.
Last week, Trump stated that “there would be” some replacement of territories to improve both “Russia and Ukraine – – causing concern in Kiev and all over Europe This Moscow may be allowed to redo Ukraine by force.
Currently, Russia controls just under 20% of the Ukrainian territory.
The White House said on Tuesday that the talks on Alaska would be “listening” to Trump and added that he and Putin would sit in the same room, give the US president “the best indication of how to end this war.”
It follows Trump, which on Monday describes the summit as a “sensitive meeting” seemed to reduce the expectations that the meeting on Friday could bring Ukraine and Russia closer to peace.
When he announced the summit last week, Trump became positive that the meeting could lead to concrete steps to peace.
“I think my bowel instinct really tells me that we have this shot,” he said.
But the President of the Ukrainian Zelensky once again expressed serious doubts that negotiations could lead to a positive result for Kyiv, which was expelled from the summit. “I don’t know what they will talk about without us,” he said.
Zelensky lost his criticism of Trump, but in recent days his disappointment in Baku became apparent, and on Tuesday he said that Alaska’s choice was a “personal victory” for Putin.
“He comes out of isolation because they meet him in the US,” he said.
Zelensky should join the virtual meeting with Donald Trump on Wednesday, EU leaders, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starr and NATO chief Mark Rute.
All sides will try to convince Trump in need not to shake Putin if they meet at a hastily organized summit.
