President of Ukrainian Valodimir Zelensky says at least 155 Chinese citizens are fighting for Russia in the war.
His comments came after two Chinese fighters were captured earlier this week – noting the first official statement of Kiev that China put Russia with a labor force.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Zelensky once again confirmed his statement that there are “many other” citizens of the Chinese engaged in conflict based on the information collected by his government.
Earlier, China denied that many of its citizens were fighting for Russia, saying that the lawsuit “had no reason”. Beijing has not yet responded to Zelensky’s last figure.
On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry press secretary Lin Jian said They still “checked the appropriate situation with Ukraine” and seemed to suggest that Chinese soldiers were working in private.
“Let me emphasize that the Chinese government always asks China’s citizens to stay away from the areas of armed conflicts, avoid any form of participation in the armed conflict and, in particular, avoid participation in any party,” said Lin Jian.
He also called on Ukraine “to consider China’s efforts correctly and a constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis of Ukraine.”
A few hours later, Zelensky doubled to his claims, saying that the “Chinese problem is serious.”
“There are 155 people with their names, with the passport data – 155 Chinese citizens fighting Ukrainians in Ukraine,” he said, reports, reports Notes reported by Interfax.
He added that Russia is recruiting Chinese citizens in social media and “official Beijing knows about it.”
According to Zelensky, the recruits are being trained in Moscow before going to the battlefield in Ukraine, as well as migration documents and payment.
Earlier this week he said that his forces fought with six Chinese soldiers in the eastern region of Ukraine and captured two. Russia refused to comment on this discovery.
The Ukrainian leader said “participation in China, as well as other countries, directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin intends to do everything except the end of the war.”
The US called the reports “alarming”.
In the past, Ukraine asked China’s announced neutral position. Zelensky was previously allegedly that Beijing supplies “elements that are part of Russian weapons” and called on the country to maintain a “consistent” position.
China has been accused by the United States to help Russia make more ammunition, armored vehicles and missiles. It was also studied for the permit for the technology of double use, which can be used both in commercial and military terms – for example, computer chips and drones – for export to Russia.
While Beijing and Moscow are close political and economic allies, China tried to present itself a neutral party in the conflict and repeatedly denied the supply of Russia’s military equipment.
He defends his trade with Moscow, stating that it is not sold by the deadly weapon and “deficie the exports of dual use in accordance with laws and rules.”
