On Thursday, the young Ukrainians were again in parliament when the deputies voted in favor of lifting the conflicting law

Since Ukraine’s deputies gathered in the Parliament in Kiev on Thursday, some cardboard signs read: “We are with our people.”

This was a message to thousands of young participants of the rally who participated in the largest anti -government demonstrations since the beginning of the full -scale invasion of Russia. They were again on Thursday.

The deputies then entered the parliament, the Council, and took part in the vote, which reversed the law introduced by the President of the Loladir Zelensky last week, which reduced the independence of two key anti-corruption agencies, known as Nabo and the Sap-National Bureau.

The signs transferred by the deputies outside the council were nod on posters that transferred thousands of young people who took to the streets in cities and cities across Ukraine.

The participants of the rally demanded that Zelensky and its government “remove their hands” from two anti -corruption bodies, and they threatened to continue until the government made a reversal.

This has succeeded in a few days.

Zelensky’s initial bill has deprived two bodies of independent powers to decide who to prosecute high -level corruption cases, giving it the prerogative to the Attorney General – appointed to the president.

For the participants of the protesters, the preservation of NBU’s independence was as important for their European future as the war against Russia, it was a matter of life and death for their country.

In 2022, Kiev was granted a coveted status of a Candidate country in the EU – but provided that he established a reliable fight against corruption.

For the Western partners of Ukraine, donors and investors who pour money into the country through international assistance and financing programs, the existence and independence of two anti -corruption bodies are not discussed.

And for Ukraine and its sanitation economics, this external financial assistance has a decisive one.

And only 10 days earlier the deputies supported the contradictory law Zelensky, and yet they voted on Thursday 331 to 0 to cancel it. In both cases, they seemed to be the direction of Zelensky.

“Ukraine – democracy – is definitely no doubt,” he said in social media.

President Zelensky sought to assure the Ukrainians that their democracy is in safe hands

Many Ukrainians see the hand of the right man Zelensky, Andrew Ermak, for the recent choice of the president.

Yermak’s position as head of the Presidential Bureau is not regulated by the Constitution and no limited checks and remains. And they ask questions about such a role in the democracy of Ukraine.

Keeping that Ukraine’s democracy and the course of European integration were key drivers for young participants of the action, while their parents and friends defended their country on the forefront.

The deputies did their best to show that the problem was solved, but this crisis left behind an unpleasant post.

This questioned Zelensky’s devotion to anti -corruption reforms.

What he seemed ready to compromise on these reforms may have seriously deepened the trust he had invested in.

Some contacted the government’s application for Nabu and SAP’s curtailing. Powerful figures in the Zelensky circle are closely focused, some either accusations or investigation.

Zelensky’s move also took place after the government dismissed the candidate elected by an independent commission to head the Economic Security Bureau – the main agency for investigating economic crimes in Ukraine.

The official reason for Oleksandra of Civilians did not settle that he did not receive security from the security service, and this is under the control of the president.

However, the civilian is a well-defined expert on combating corruption, and the selection commission still wants it to be appointed.

All these elements have led to one of the biggest crises of power for the Zelensky team since he came to power in 2019.

Three and a half years in a full -scale war, the risk of further such mistakes can come to significant costs.

Next year, Ukraine’s budget deficit may reach $ 13 billion (10 billion pounds), according to the National Bank. Kyiv will not be able to continue fighting the war if he lost the support of Western partners.

The EU has already reduced part of its financial assistance to Ukraine because the government has not lagged behind the promised reforms.

It seems that the young participants of the Ukraine rally realized that everything was too good and were ready to challenge their government in the country in which they decided to remain, despite the deadly threat of Russian drones and missile attacks.
