Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has taken a twist in his comments on legendary captain MS Dhoni. Yograj recently said that Dhoni was a “motivated captain” who knew how to read the wicket and get the best out of his bowlers.
Yograj also called Dhoni “fearless” and revealed an incident when he was unfazed by a fearsome bowler in the world. Yograj’s recent comments come as a big shock as he had earlier criticized Dhoni for destroying his son’s career. Yuvraj Singh.

While speaking on a YouTube show ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’, Yograj Singh was asked about MS Dhoni and his captaincy. Yograj said that Dhoni was a motivated captain and claimed that he could read a cover quickly.
“I think (MS) Dhoni is a very driven captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read that the wicket can tell the bowlers where to play,” he observe Yograj.
Calling him a “fearless” man, Yograj cited an incident that showed the world how fearless Dhoni was. He also believes that players with such a fearless attitude are very few in today’s cricket.
“What I liked most about him was that he was a man without fear. If you remember in Australia, they beat him to the grill Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t move a bit, he just stood there and the next ball he was bowled for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” he added.
During an interview with Zee Switch’s YouTube channel in 2024, Yograj Singh had launched a scathing attack on MS Dhoni and blamed him for ending Yuvraj Singh’s career. He even asked Dhoni to look in the mirror and refused to forgive him.
“I will not forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very great cricketer but what he has done against my son, now it all comes out; he can never be forgiven in life,” Yograj had said .
He even went so far as to ask for the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, for his son Yuvraj Singh for winning the World Cup for India in 2011 despite suffering from cancer.
“I dare everyone to give birth to a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir i Virender Sehwag they have said in the past that there will not be another Yuvraj Singh. India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing with cancer and winning the country the World Cup,” he had reckoned.
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, he is still an active player in the Indian Premier League. The legendary wicketkeeper batsman has continued to play for Chennai Super Kings even after his retirement and led the team to win the IPL title in 2021 and 2023.
Dhoni will next be seen in action during IPL 2025 after being retained by the franchise in the uncapped player category. He was retained by CSK for INR 4 million. He rejected reports of his retirement and wants to enjoy the game while he plays.
