World record alert! Karun Nair achieves a sensational milestone in List A cricket

Vidarbha captain Karun Nair is in top form in the ongoing 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, reminding the Indian selectors that he is not done yet amid big-name failures in the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Karun Nair is currently on a record spree with his jaw-dropping batting in the ongoing 50-run tournament. The Indian batsman made history during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 by setting a new world record for most consecutive runs in List A cricket without being dismissed.

Nair achieved this amazing feat on January 3 during Vidarbha’s VHT 2024-25 match against Uttar Pradesh. In a thrilling chase of 308 runs, the Vidarbha captain made an impressive knock of 112 runs and was dismissed for the first time in his last four innings of the tournament.

His knock of 112 runs was laced with 11 fours and two sixes. In the course of his century, Karun Nair set a new world record, surpassing New Zealand’s James Franklin to become the List A player with the most consecutive runs without being dismissed. On Friday, January 3, Nair surpassed Franklin’s tally of 527 runs in 2010.

After the right-handed batsman was dismissed for 112 by Bihari Rai for the first time in the tournament, his unbeaten run ended with 542 in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. It was Karun Nair’s 403rd consecutive century in the ongoing tournament.

The Vidarbha captain started the VHT 2024-25 with an unbeaten 112* against Jammu and Kashmir, followed by a solid 44* against Chhattisgarh. He then hit an impressive 163* against Chandigarh, followed by an impressive 111* against Tamil Nadu and now 112 against Uttar Pradesh.

With his fabulous ton during Vidarbha’s eight-wicket win over Uttar Pradesh at the Vizzy Stadium in Vizianagaram on Friday, Nair also became the first Indian batsman to score 500-plus or 500-plus List A runs without being dismissed in innings when he reached 70.

Nair became the third batsman in the ongoing 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy to score three consecutive centuries in the 50-over tournament, joining his former teammate and Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal, along with Punjab laborer Prabhsimran Singh. The 33-year-old led Vidarbha to the top of Group E with 16 points in four completed matches.

In five matches, Nair amassed 542 runs in the ongoing tournament. He now has seven centuries, four of which have come in a span of eight days, and 13 fifties in List A cricket. Nair now has 2779 runs to his name in 102 List A games.

Notably, Nair, who last played for India in 2017, made a strong comeback at a crucial time in his career. After going unsold in the IPL auctions for two consecutive seasons, the talented batsman was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 50 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction in November.

This will be Nair’s second stint with the Delhi Capitals (DC), having previously played for the franchise in the 2016-17 season. Last year, Nair ended his 11-year association with Karnataka and switched to Vidarbha in 2023, and is now named captain of the ongoing VHT 2024-25.
