Woman arrested in the US for allegedly holding the stepson for 20 years

The man conecticut, whose stepmother allegedly held him in captivity for 20 years, escaped, setting fire to the small room in which he contained, officials said.

Authorities responded to a fire and rescued a exhausted 32-year-old man from the premises of 72 square feet (6.7 square meters). The alleged captivity weighed 68 pounds (30 kilograms) on his escape and was treated when smoke inhaled.

Waterbury police, Connecticut, confessed to the fire after continuing “prolonged abuse, hunger, strong neglect and inhuman treatment.”

His stepmother, who was accused of holding him captive and hungry, was accused of kidnapping and cruelty. She denied the allegations.

Having explained his reasoning on the arson, the man said the police: “I wanted my freedom.”

Prosecutors claim that he was given a sandwich and two small bottles of water a day. It was released only from captivity for two hours a day to do business under the supervision of the stepmother.

Using the disinfectants, the paper and the lighter, he fired the fire, knowing what he could die, court said in court.

His stepmother Kimberley Sullivan, 56, was at home at the time of the fire, but did not talk to the authorities when they arrived at the scene.

Ms. Sullivan’s lawyer said the allegations were false.

“He was not closed in the room,” said local media lawyer Joannis Kalaidis. “She was by no means restraining him. She provided food; she provided asylum. She blew these charges.”

The fire was initiated on February 17, and the local police detained Ms Sullivan on Wednesday.

Waterbury’s police chief Fernando Spagnol called the details of the case “both mental and incredible.”

Police said the victim had told them that he had been held captive in his family in Waterbury for about 11 years.

“He was closed in the room for 20 years, and for 20 years he tried to leave this room,” the prosecutor said.

The authorities were unclear when their father died, but they said his conditions deteriorated as a result.

When found, the authorities said he had a body mass index (BMI). The National Health Service states that a healthy range is from 18.5 to 24.9.

Police said an unnamed man did not receive medical and dental care during his captivity.
