When Elon Musk recently announced that he was backing away from politics, investors hoped that it means that he would enhance his participation in the many technology firms he manages.
His explosive line with President Donald Trump – and the most public on the air of his dirty laundry laundry – believes that changing Musk’s priorities may not be quite the way they hoped.
Instead of Musk a few retreating from the public eye and focusing on raising the success of Tesla and its other enterprises, it now threatens a boycott from one of its main customers – Trump’s federal government.
Tesla’s shares were sent to Freefall on Thursday – falling 14% – when it sounded about President Donald Trump on social media.
On Friday, they bounced slightly after some indications that the temperatures were chilled.
However, for investors and analysts who have made it clear for several months what Musk wants from the phone and back at work, the situation is far from perfect.
Some, although claiming that problems for the enterprises are much deeper than this splash – and the controversial role in the Trump administration, which it led to an impressive end.
For a veteran -technical journalist Kara Svisher, this is especially for Tesla.
“Tesla is over,” she said the BBC on the sidelines of the San Francisco summit in the media earlier this week.
“It was a great car company. They could compete in an autonomous taxi, but they were behind.”
Tesla has long tried to play a contract against the Waymo competitor belonging to Google Parent Alphabet, whose taxi without drivers have been running through the streets of San Francisco-and now working in several cities.
This month, Musk allegedly controls the launch of the TESLA party of the Autonomous Robbach in Austin, Texas.
Last week, he posted on X that the electric car manufacturer testing the model in without drivers aboard.
“I believe that 90% of the future value of Tesla will be autonomous and robotics,” said the Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Jus this week, adding that launching Austin will be a “turning point”.
“The first task is to ensure an autonomous vision that comes out of the phenomenal start,” Jus added.
But when Musk’s attention shared, the chances of the project’s success seems to have extended.
And there is something else to consider: Musk’s own motivation.
Recently, talking to Silicon Valley is less focused on whether Musk can turn everything over or more or he cares.
“He is a really powerful man when he focuses on something,” said Gerber, President and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Management.
“Earlier, it was about to prove to the world what it would do the EVS – a technique that no one else could do. It was about prove that he could do rockets. He had a lot to prove.”
A longtime investor Tesla, Gerber came to the shares and combined his possessions after Musk’s onset. He called “Extremely painful day” on Thursday.
“This is the most nonsense you could do to think that you have more strength than the US president,” Gerber said, citing a tirade of social media against Trump.
The BBC addressed X, Tesla and SpaceX, seeking commentary from Mr. Musk but did not receive an answer.
A special problem for Musk is that before he seemed to create an enemy in Donald Trump, he already had a grassrooping social media campaign against his car.
Protests called #teslatakedown have played all over the country every weekend since Trump has taken office.
In April Tesla reported a decline in car sales by 20% In the first three months of the year. More than 70%plunged, and the stock price decreased.
“He should not decide the fate of our democracy by breaking our government into parts. This is not correct,” Protestant Linda Kosininen told me at a demonstration outside the dealer in Berkeley, California Tesla in February.
Koistinin said she wanted to personally “visible stand” against Musk.
“The end is not about the technology or Tesla technology,” said Joan Dononan, a well-known researcher of the misinformation that organized the protests of #teslatakedown in social media.
“It is about how Tesla’s stock was able to arm against people, and it put Musk in such a position to have an incredible number of power without transparency,” Donana added.
Another aspect of the Moscow empire that raised the anger of its detractors is X, the social media platform called Twitter.
“He bought Twitter so he had a hook and could – with a drop of hat – to reach hundreds of millions,” Donovan said.
There is another opportunity here.
Can Musa Loud Loss with Trump help rehabilitate him in the eyes of the people who appealed against him because of his previous proximity to the president?
Patrick Murched, Moor Insights & Strategy, believes it can.
“We are a very sorry country,” Murched says in a telephone interview.
“Such things take time,” he admits, but “it’s not unprecedented.”
Swisher compared a personal brand Musk to Microsoft Bill Gates co -founded more than two decades ago.
She said Gates once was considered a “dart Vader from the silicone valley” from his “brazen and rough” person.
Today, despite its shortcomings, the Gates largely rehabilitated its image.
“He learned. He grew up.
The problem for Musk is the future for him and his companies not only in what he does – but also what Trump also solves.
And although Trump was musk in the past, not least to help finance his presidential race, it’s not so clear what he is doing now.
Noah Smith, Writer Noahpinion Sumsic, said a very profitable Trump raid in cryptocurrency – as unwavering as it was – Perhaps he was released from Musk to fulfill his will.
“I suppose it was to get it out of Elon,” Smith said.
In Trump’s most threatening comment on the day, he suggested cutting Moscow’s state contracts that have an estimate of $ 38 billion.
A significant piece of this is the Rocket Company SpaceX Musk -seemingly threatening its future.
However, despite the shock, Trump’s warning may be a little more hollow than it seems.
All because the Space Space SpaceX Space Ships
This demonstrates that SpaceX is so fixed in the American apparatus and national security that Trump’s threat can be difficult.
You can make a similar argument about Musk, Starlink. The search alternative can be easier to say than to do.
But if there are restrictions on what Trump can do the same with Musk.
In the middle of his line with Trump, he threatened to dismiss the Dragon – but it wasn’t long before he returned.
By answering the user’s proposal that he “cooled” he wrote, “Good advice. Okay, we won’t fide the dragon.”
It is clear that Musk and Trump’s friendship is over. Less confidently that their addiction is on each other.
Regardless of the future of Musk’s business, it seems Trump – and his administration’s actions – will still have a large number of them.
