“In light of today’s safety concerns regarding increased wind activity and fire outbreaks in Los Angeles,” an Amazon representative said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, January 7. “We regret to inform you that we are canceling tonight’s premiere of Unstoppable.”
Los Angeles is currently experiencing severe winds and fires in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, which is just outside of Santa Monica. Most of the Palisades were ordered to evacuate Tuesday afternoon, per the Los Angeles Times.
“As much as we look forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority,” the statement continued. “We encourage everyone to watch Unstoppable on Prime Video, which will be available globally on January 16. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.”
Los Angeles National Weather Service’ official X account issued a warning regarding dangerous wind storms expected to occur from Tuesday to Wednesday, January 8.
“A widespread LIFE-THREATENING, DIFFERENT, WIDESPREAD wind storm is expected Tuesday afternoon-Wednesday morning across many Ventura/LA Co. Areas that are not normally affected,” the tweet read on Monday, January 6 , alongside an infographic of potential areas. could be affected. “See the graphic for areas of greatest concern. The Unstoppable premiere was scheduled to take place on Tuesday in West Hollywood. There have been many stars affected by the wildfiresand some have even stepped in to assist with assistance. An actor Steve Guttenberg has been on the ground helping firefighters by moving cars left behind due to evacuation orders so fire trucks and other residents could have easy access to the road.
“There are people stuck there. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m walking up there as far as I can move cars,” Police Academy alum said in a Tuesday interview with KTLA. “There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help.”
