Why Trump and Putin’s meeting in Alaska?

On Friday, August 15, the United States and Russia agreed to hold a meeting between Donald Trump’s presidents and Vladimir Putin to discuss how to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump announced a meeting a week before – the same day when Russia agreed with the ceasefire in Ukraine or threatens more sanctions by the United States.

Three round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which took place at the freedom of Trump this summer, has not yet brought both parties closer to peace.

Here’s what we know about the meeting of the two leaders that take place in Alaska – which was once a Russian territory – in an an angridge.

The US acquired Alaska in Russia in 1867, lenting historical resonance to the meeting. It became the state of the United States in 1959.

As a presidential candidate, he promised that he could end the war within 24 hours after his orientation. He also repeatedly claimed that the war “would never have happened” if he was president during Russia’s invasion of 2022.

The frustrations rose, and Trump set the term on August 8 to agree with the immediate ceasefire or threaten the United States’s serious sanctions.

As the deadline expired, Trump instead announced that he and Putin would meet personally on August 15.

On the eve of the meeting, the White House sought to lose the assumption that the bilateral could give a ceasefire.

“It’s a listening to the president,” said the White House, Caroline Levit, a White House. She added that Trump could travel to Russia after a trip to Alaska.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Trump said he considered the summit as a “meeting” aimed at Putin’s urge to stop the war.

The Ukrainian President Olodimir Zelensky is not expected. Trump said on Monday, “I would say he could go, but he was at numerous meetings.”

Trump, however, said Zelensky would be the first person he would call after.

Later, the White House official stated that Trump and Zelensky would meet almost Wednesday, ahead of the US president’s summit with Putin. Several European leaders will join the meeting with Zelensky.

Putin asked Zelensky to turn off, although the White House had previously stated that Trump was ready to hold a three -way tripartite.

Zelensky stated that any agreements without the contribution of Ukraine would be “dead decisions”.

While Russia and Ukraine have long said they wanted the war to end, both countries want things that others are harshly.

Trump said on Monday that “he would try to return part of this (occupied Russian) territory for Ukraine.” But he also warned that there could be “some replacement, changes in the ground.”

Ukraine, however, was unwavering that Russian control over the regions confiscated by Moscow, including Crimea.

Zelensky pushed this week against any idea to “change” the territory.

“We will not reward Russia for what has done,” said the President of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Putin did not come from his territorial requirements, Ukraine’s neutrality and the future size of his army.

Russia has launched a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, partly on Putin’s conviction, the Western Defense Alliance, NATO used the neighboring country to gain a foothold to bring its troops closer to the Russian borders.

Trump’s administration is trying to stop European leaders to cease fire that will transfer Russia to the Ukrainian territory, according to a BBC CBS News partner.

The agreement would allow Russia to support control over the Crimean peninsula and adopt the Donbass region of Eastern Ukraine, consisting of Donetsk and Luhansk, sources familiar with the negotiations report.

Russia illegally occupied Crimea in 2014, and its forces controlled most of the Donbass region.

According to this agreement, Russia should abandon the Ukrainian regions of Kherson and the festival, where it currently has some military control.

Speaking in front of Fox News, US Vice President JD Vance said any future deal is “not going to make anyone very happy.”

“You have to make peace here … You can’t finger,” he said.

“The way to peace is to have a decisive leader to sit down and make people come together.”
