NBC; MAXNoah Wyle is “not sorry” for playing new doctor on The Pitt instead of reprising his role as John Carter in a now defunct game SUB revival.
After The Pitt for the first time on Thursday, January 9, Wyle, 53, was asked how he plans to come back SUB eventually turned in a whole new show instead.
“That calls into question all the various chronologies of this and all the different kinds of iterations. You’re absolutely right, the intentionality was born in 2020 during the pandemic,” Wyle said Television line on Thursday. “The idea was to look at what was happening to the people who were on the front line, and also look at the population that was getting sick and dying, and see how there seemed to be two health care systems different in the area. our country – those for people who have money and insurance, and those who don’t. “
The similarity between The Pitt a SUB was there for a reason.
“Those were all issues we tried to talk about back in the ’90s, when 22 million Americans were going without health insurance and using emergency rooms as their primary source of health care. All these themes were very significant to us then, and they have continued to be significant to us,” noted Wyle, who played John Carter on the long-running series. “Then it became, ‘Is the old IP (intellectual property) the easiest and most advantageous delivery system?’ It seemed to be the one that people were most excited to try, but that wasn’t really the point of the exercise.”
Although there interested in SUB being reinvigorated, Wyle was more excited about taking a fresh look at the subject, adding, “The more we went down that road, the more the point got bogged down in the reunion aspect, the retread aspect and the restart aspect. So I wasn’t angry when we were forced to pivot and figure out how to tell the story in a new way.”
Wyle continued: “In many ways, (not regeneration SUB) free us from the narrative constraints we would have to adhere to, and pay homage to.”
SUBwhich aired between 1994 and 2009, followed the inner life of an emergency room in a fictionalized version of Chicago’s real Cook County Hospital. Wyle starred alongside George Clooney, Julianna Marguiles, Anthony Edwards, Eric La Salle a Sherry Stringfield (and later John Stamos, Mekhi Pfifer a Linda Cardelliniamong others).

More than a decade later SUB end, Wyle has returned as the star and executive producer of a new medical series on Max. The Pitt is described by the streaming service as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America today as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern hospital in Pittsburgh.”
The Pitt highlights the highs – and lows – of the job while making the 15 episodes showcase 15 hours of one shift.
“(Fellow EP) John (Wells)Max and Warner Brothers were on board to try and make use of this new streaming platform, to see if we could tell the story in a more visually impressive way than we did back in the 90s,” explained Wyle. “It’s way more photorealistic than we’ve ever been able to do, and in a more organic, performance-based way. Since you are no longer bound by standards and customs and language (barriers), you can really paint with all the colors on the palette. The question is not ‘What can you show?’ Rather, ‘What should you show, according to discretion and taste?’”

Wyle found it “very satisfying” to bring a new live medical drama.
“I wanted him to feel the way he used to feel – and the way he hadn’t felt in a long time. Could we make him feel that way again? John and (creator) R. Scott (Gemmill) supported that because they too had been looking for that feeling that we all had (last) 15 years ago, when we did this the first time,” he continued . “The work felt good, and we had a good time, and we liked each other while we were doing it, and everyone was respectful. It was inclusive, and it was groundbreaking. And we wanted to see if lightning could strike twice – and, in some ways, it already has. “
In addition to The PittThursday also marked Wyle’s first performance train costar Prime Video Series La Salle On Call. Wyle was asked about the coincidence by Television lineand he answered, “No (I didn’t know), but what can I say? The 90s are back.”
