The recent restructuring of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer from June 15 to July 13.
There have been significant changes in the tournament, which was previously done annually with only seven teams, but now it will have 32 teams and will take place every four years.
The tournament will feature clubs from the six football confederations: Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), North and Central America (Concacaf), South America (Conmebol), Oceania (OFC) and Europe (UEFA).
European clubs have been destined to 12 points, the highest among the confederations. The qualification was determined by the club’s performances at the Champions League for the last four seasons, which means that past winners such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid have secured their places.
The additional European teams were ranked through the UEFA classification system, although a border of two clubs per country meant that Liverpool lost despite his strong show in the Champions League of 2022.
The Federations of Asia, Africa and the North and Central American Federations have four assigned slots, while South America has six and Oceania has one.
The structure of the World Cup of Renewed Clubs reflects that of FIFA’s international tournaments.
The 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four, with each team playing the others in a round format.
The first two of each group advance to the stages eliminated. However, unlike the World Cup, this tournament will not include a third place play-off. The final is scheduled for July 13, 2025.
32 clubs, a world champion.

A tournament place is reserved for a host nation club, and FIFA granted Inter Miami’s place based on the 2024 MLS Shield Shield victory, given to the team with the best record of the regular season.
Although Inter Miami was eliminated in the Playoffs of the MLS and they are not the champions of the League, its invitation has caused the debate, with some interpreting it as FIFA’s effort to ensure the participation of Lionel Messi in a tournament that has not yet caused widespread excitement.

FIFA is currently facing legal actions of the unions and players’ leagues due to planning problems.
Critics argue that the football calendar is being “oversaturated”, increasing the risks to the safety and well -being of the players.
Some players, such as Alisson de Liverpool and Rodri de Manchester City, have openly stated concerns about the growing number of matches. The tournament calendar is another problem, as there are only five weeks between the Club World Cup final and the start of the Premier League 2025-26 season on August 16.
The Club World Cup is also partially overlapping the 2025 Women’s Euro, which results from July 2 to 27.
