What Hoda Kotb Has Said About Her Career Plans After The Today Show

Hoda Kotb is ready to start a new chapter after saying goodbye to NBC’s Today.

The TV personality announced on September 26 that she is leaves the morning show after almost 30 years working for the network. “I just turned 60, and it was a huge moment for me when I turned 60 because I started thinking about that decade, like, what does that decade mean? What is it holding? What will it get me?” she announced tearfully on the air. “And I realized it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and try something new.”

At the time, Kotb also noted that her role as a mother influenced her decision. “I had my children late in life, and I thought they deserved a bigger piece of my time, the pie I have,” she explained. “I feel we only have a limited amount of time. And so, with that being said, it’s the hardest thing in the world.” (Kotb shares her daughtersHaley and Hope, with ex-fiancee Joel Schiffman.)

Kotb will close his streak on Today with special “Hoda-bration” episode on January 10, thereafter Craig Melvin will take over his role like Savannah Guthrie‘ a cogger. Jenna Bush Hager will continue to co-host the fourth hour with a rotating panel of guest hosts until a permanent replacement is chosen.

Today alums such as Katie Couric a Tamron Hall have gone on to host their own TV shows or move on to other series, such as Deborah Norville he did with Inside Edition. Although Kotb has not announced any official upcoming projects, she has teased that the next phase of her career could take place on and off the small screen.

Kotb noted that she would remain in the “NBC family” for the next steps of her career during her departure announcement but did not elaborate on the extent of her future with the network.

On the October 25 episode of Today With Hoda and JennaKotb revealed that she plans to dive into the world of wellness after saying goodbye to Today.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever had an aspiration, a calling, a desire, and you can’t give it up, even if you try, because working at NBC is safer. … But sometimes, you know there’s something else you want to try in your life,” he explained. “And I’ve been so turned on by the wellness space because I realized what was happening to me. I tried different things and noticed that my body was calmer. I was getting sick less. I felt better. I was a better parent, a better friend, a better sister, a better daughter. And I thought, all these little things I was doing day after day were helping to change me inside.”

Kotb continued: “What I want to do is I want to live healthy. I want to work in that space. I want to start things. I’ve got things seeping inside that hopefully I’ll have fully formed soon.”

How Will Hoda Kotb Spend Her Free Time After ‘Today’?

In addition to pursuing health, Kotb has continuously joked about looking forward to more time with her children after leaving Today. Since move outside of New York City earlier this year, Kotb has raved about experiencing suburban milestones such as walking her children to school, take them trick-or-treating a hold holidays in her new home.

“I’m so excited because stockings are being hung in a place that you know is going to be where they’re going to be hanging for years – we, for the first time, decided where the tree goes, and we know from this day on, this is where it’s going – all these cool things,” he said on the December 24 episode of Hoda and Jenna before celebrating Christmas with her daughters, her mother, Togetherhis sister, Soand Schiffman. “We decluttered our house, like all those kinds of neat things.”
