Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Sollecito’s raffaeeLives forever changed following the death of 2007 from the Knox -Localist, Meredith Kercher.

Knox attended the university for foreigners in Perugia, Italy, as an exchange student when her fellow -countryman was found cruelly in their apartment. Police immediately suspected that Knox and her new boyfriend, Sollecito, somehow related to Kercher’s death, starting an eight-year legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Italian.

Only for eight days did Knox and Sollecito dated at the time of their arrest, and although their romantic relationship had expired shortly thereafter, the two became reliable allies in a battle against the highest levels of the Italian justice system.

Why was Raffaele Sollecito arrested?

Sollecito nearly completed a computer science degree at the University of Perugia in Italy when he met Knox in a classical music concert in October 2007.

During an interview in 2012 with Anderson CooperSollecito admitted that co -operation with the police was initially a mistake without hiring a solicitor.

“The police, they wanted it,” he remembered. “The detectives had their eyes on us since the beginning. I didn’t feel the need to have a lawyer, I didn’t touch anything, I didn’t go into the murder scene. It was impossible for me that I would never be charged for murder like that.”

Sollecito and Knox were charged with murder and sexual assault in November 2007. While Sollecito and Knox always maintained their innocence, there were contradictions in their alibis. For example, Sollecito said he was watching cartoons on his computer in his own apartment on the night of the murder, although his PC records could not check his allegation.

Knox told researchers that she was a sollecito flat on Kercher’s murder night, although Sollecito admitted he could not be sure they were together all night. What happened in the trials of Raffaele Sollecito?

Sollecito and Knox were convicted twice from Kercher’s murder in controversial circumstances. The couple were initially convicted following a trial that was very publicity in 2009, only for an appeal to overturn the ruling two years later. (Knox had been a 26 year sentence, while Sollecito had 25 years behind bars.)

The Supreme Court of Italy received the case in 2013 and ruled to overturn the appeals and ordered a new trial to take place. The following year Sollecito and Knox were convicted the second time and ordered them back to prison, back Npr.

Knox returned to the United States after her first successful appeal in 2011 and, as a result, was proven in Absentia. Sollecito remained in Italy and was briefly sent back to prison following the second conviction.

When Sollecito appealed the result of the case again, the Supreme Court of Italy took the case for the second time and ruled him Reversing a second sollecito convictionFormally deported in March 2015. The High Court ruled that Sollecito and Knox could never face a criminal prosecution in connection with Kercher’s death.

Why divided Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox?

Knox and Sollecito fates were tied together long after their romantic relationship ended.

Speaking to Cooper in 2012, Sollecito recalled keeping in close contact with Knox for four years after they were sent to separate prisons in 2009. He admitted that his own family urged him to speak out against Knox to secure a smaller sentence.

“On the plate, my life or throwing Amanda was under the bus,” he insisted. “I can’t walk on the street as a free man realizing that I am to blame for innocent 20 year old spending the rest of her life in prison.”

The romantic aspect of Knox and Sollecito’s relationship faded before their trial, though they remained close friends. When the pair were initially released following their first appeal, Sollecito visited Knox and her family in Washington.

“When I look at her I got a little stuck, I was nervous, ‘he told Katie Couric In an interview in 2012. “I still had the psychological wounds of this nightmare that passed in prison. Her image raised the image of the nightmare.”

He went on, “After she remembers me, I realized that Amanda is the Amanda I dated for that week. She is not the Amanda who was ‘the Amanda Spirit’ during those four years.”

What is Raffaele Sollecito’s life now?

Knox and Sollecito move on with their lives even as the appeal process and re -appeared to take place in the 2010s. Chew married author Christopher Robinson In February 2020 and they now share two children.

Sollecito followed a career as a software engineer and moved to Milan to run his own business. He later announced his engagement with his love Andreea mahaela burteaalthough it is unclear whether they are still together.
