What Happened Between Kate Beckinsale and Matt Rife at the Golden Globes?

Kate Beckinsale and before Matt Rife reconnect at an afterparty for the 2025 Golden Globes – but it didn’t go further than a quick chat.

Beckinsale and Rife dating for a year after connecting in 2017. After their split, the actress sparked a romance with Pete Davidson in 2019. At the time, Rife made headlines for telling Davidson, 31, he should “run” and describing his relationship with Beckinsale as “complicated.”

“Enjoy it while you can. I hope they’re both happy, I hope it can build to where it’s an established, good relationship,” Rife told TMZ in March 2019. “I wish them both the best. I hope they are happy. I don’t really have any solid advice, just be careful.”

Years later, Rife admitted it he regretted his comments for Beckinsale.

“I gave that advice because I was only speaking from personal experience, after being together and finding out we weren’t the most compatible match,” he told Elle in September 2023. “I wanted to make sure that they were both careful with their emotions and that they didn’t get into something that they wouldn’t either, that wouldn’t work out as well.”

He also publicly apologized to Davidson and Beckinsale, saying that he had been a “bit of an a-hole” about the situation.

“I regret saying that. Pete, if you’re out there, sorry to say that. Kate, I also apologize for saying that. I shouldn’t have said that,” he said. “I gave the advice to be careful because I had just come out of a relationship with someone (where) unfortunately I discovered that we were not compatible. And I always want people to, you know, protect their personal emotions and feelings.”

Before joining Rife and Davidson, Beckinsale was married Len Wisemanwho married in 2004. The duo separated in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2019.

Beckinsale previously dated Michael Sheen from 1995 to 2003. The former couple share daughter Lily Mo, 25.
