EpaDonald Trump has signed a ban on traveling to the US from 12 countries, citing the risk of national security, the White House reports.
The US president said the list could be revised if “material improvements” were made and additional countries could also be added as “threats that arise worldwide”.
This is the second time he ordered to ban traveling from certain countries.
He signed a similar order in 2017 during his first term.
Which countries are affected?
Trump has signed a proclamation that prohibits traveling to the US from 12 countries:
- Afghanistan
- Myanmar
- Chad
- Republic of the Congo
- Equatorial Guinea
- Eritrea
- Haiti
- Iran
- Libya
- Sore
- Sudan
- Yemen
There are seven other countries in which citizens face partial travel restrictions:
- Turbundy
- Cube
- Laos
- Sierra — Leone
- Then
- Turkmenistan
- Venezuela
The ban comes into force on Monday at 12:01 (05:01 BST), a pillow that avoids chaos that unfolded at airports across the country when a similar measure came into force almost without notice eight years ago.
Why was the ban announced?
The White House said these “restrictions on common sense” will “protect Americans from dangerous foreign subjects.”
In a video posted on his social site, Trump said Latest assumed terrorist attacks in Baulders, Colorado “Emphasized extreme dangers” presented by foreign nationals who were not “correctly proven”.
Twelve people were injured in Colorado on Sunday, when a man attacked a group gathering in support of Israeli hostages by throwing two incendiary devices and using an improvised firearm.
A man accused of holding the attack was defined as a national Egyptian.
What was the reaction to the ban?
Trump’s last order, which is expected to face legal problems, attracted a quick response at home and abroad.
Somali promised to work with the United States to address any security issues.
In his statement, Somali Ambassador to the United States Dahir Hassan said his country “appreciates his long -standing relations” with America.
Venezuela Diojdad’s Interior Minister warned that “staying in the United States is a great risk for anyone, not just for Venezuelans.”
The Democrats quickly condemned this step.
“This prohibition, extended from Trump’s Muslim ban in the first term, only nominate us on the world stage,” Jaapal said in a social media report.
Another Democrat, Congressman Don Beer, says Trump “betrayed” the ideals of the United States.
What happened last time?
Trump has ordered the initial ban on traveling during his first term in the White House in 2017.
It featured some of the same countries as its last order, including Iran, Libya and Somalia.
Critics called it a “Muslim prohibition” because the seven countries originally listed were the Muslim majority.
The White House revised politics, eventually adding two non -Muslim countries, North Korea and Venezuela.
It was supported by the Supreme Court in 2018.
President Joe Biden, who changed Trump, abolished the ban in 2021, calling it “spots on our national conscience.”
