Ryan Reynolds Wasting no time saying Welcome to Wrexham Viewers how he felt ahead of the promotion of Wrexham AFC’s history.
“I feel very nervous, like, very nervous,” said Reynolds, 48, during the episode on Thursday, June 26, of welcome to Wrexham, which acted as the fourth season’s finale. “As, adult diaper is nervous.”
Reynolds’ comment wasn’t really Come before Wrexham Football Game (football in Wales), rather a game featuring their toughest competition. Prior to a April history win, the team was against the Wycombe Wanderers for automatic promotion to the Championship League.
The Wycombe game against Leyton Orient is what caused Reynolds’ stress as the results of this match would decide whether Wrexham would be an automatic promotion. Wycomb game v. Leyton hours before Wrexham was supposed to go on the field.
“That’s the moment I think we all, everyone, the whole town, have become ‘holy s ***, this could happen,” said Reynolds in his confession. “We could not only be promoted, but we could make history doing it.”
Wycomb lost 1-0, meaning if Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic the same day they would Promoted from one’s league to the Championship League. Spoiler Alert, Wrexham won the 3-0 game and made history as the first team in history to win backup promotions.
Reynolds and Wrexham Cochair bought Rob Mcelhenney the team in 2020 with the goal to take the Team to the Premier League. Now, they’re one promotion away.
“I want to bask, would you just let me sunbathe? We’ll talk about next year’s championship,” joking Mcelhenney, 48, when asked what’s next to the team. “A few years ago, we were not in the English football league. They asked us what our goal was, and I said the Premier League and people laugh. No one is laughing anymore.
Reynolds added, “The promotion of backups does not happen. The only place it could happen is here. Wrexham is the only place in which this kind of historical miracle could occur. Because of the town, because of the club, because of its history, because of its sadness, because of its joy, because of its joy, because of its joy, because of its perseverance, because of its perseverance and all that comes together.”
New Episodes of Welcome to Wrexham Premiere on FX Thursday at 9 pm ET and are streaming through Hulu the next day.
