Welbeck’s extending heroics send the seagulls while Gordon sees red

Brighton won a dramatic 2-1 victory over Newcastle in St James Park to advance the quarterfinals of the FA CUP.

Danny Welbeck’s beautiful finished in the 114th minute sealed the victory for the gulls, punishing Newcastle for the lost possibilities in what was an incredibly entertaining contest.

The game started at a high rate, with both parts desired to put in the driving seat.

Newcastle almost put himself at the helm when Alexander Isak’s head was blocked by Adam Webster and his tracking effort sailed.

Brighton responded with his own possibility, as Joao Pedro went to La Caixa, but was detained by Dan Burn.

The advance took place in the 22nd minute when former Newcastle Aler, Yankuba Minteh, went down badly to Tino Livamento inside the penalty area.

Referee Anthony Taylor had no hesitation in the granting of the penalty, and Isak increased to safely send the score to the top, giving the hosts leadership.

Newcastle continued to advance after the opening and Isak thought that he had duplicated his advantage with a brilliant end for the first time, only for which he was discarded out of play.

Brighton struggled to create clear opportunities, but became the party as half the time approached.

His persistence paid off in the 44th minute when Joao Pedro played a perfectly weighted ball in Minteh. The Gambia end remained in the part and passed in front of Martin Dubravka, his shot slightly diverting Kieran Trippier on his way.

Out of respect for his former club, Minheh abstained from celebrating in front of his former fans.

The second half was even more a battle, with the two teams that won a winner. Newcastle had several opportunities, especially when Joe Willock did not come in contact with a cross that only needed a simple touch to turn.

Brighton also had possibilities, with Joao Pedro forcing a strong Dubravka savings.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 83rd minute when Anthony Gordon de Newcastle was sent for a moment of madness.

After an off -play decision, the end pushed Jan Paul Van Hecke to his head, which caused the referee to mark a direct red card.

Brighton sought to capitalize on his numerical advantage, but the removal of Tariq Lamptey in the time of stoppage for a second reserved offense again leveled the pitch.

With the score tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the additional time was in the cards. Both teams seemed to be shattered, but continued to fight for a winning goal.

Newcastle was closed by the 118th minute, when Dan Burn’s powerful unit blinked in the publication. But a few moments later, Brighton gave the murderer.

Solly March found space on the right flank and played perfectly through the ball on Welbeck, who had remained on the edge.

The England International showed a great composition, raising the ball over the Onrushing Dubravka to complete the change for visitors.

Newcastle desperately searched for an equalization in dying times, but its efforts were reduced. When Willock shot a speculative shot in the stoppage, Eddie Howe’s anguish on the contact line summed up the frustrations of the Magpies.

Brighton remained in the last seconds to secure his place in the quarterfinals, leaving Newcastle to his lost possibilities and disciplinary problems.

The gulls are now heading to the FA CUP, while the Magpies have to focus again quickly in front of the EFL Cup final against Liverpool in two weeks, although they will now have to do so without the suspended Gordon.
