The death of an unexpected character in the We were liars The second episode seems to set the mood for the rest of the season as more Sinclair family secrets are unveiled.
The second installment, called “lap he up in a package of lies,” opens with cadence (Emily Alyn Lind) Wake up in a hospital bed following the mysterious accident at the end of the summer of 16.
“This is what I remember, I shared a perfect kiss with a gate on the beach in June and woke up in hospital in August,” Cadence told the audience. “Everything that happened between them is lost in the black hole of my brain injury.”
Montage of Cadence’s recovery shows her pop -up pain medication, cuts her yellow hair and dies her dark brown. The character’s voice reveals that she was triggered by her traumatic injury to the brain.
“The liars have not spoken to me all year, the pills only work to the headaches, but to improve the heartbreak, I need to know the truth,” the voiceover continues. “I have to return to Beechwood.”
Cadence convinces her mother Penny (Caitlin Fitzgerald) To take her back to Beechwood for summer 17. When they arrive on the island, things have changed. The home of his grandparents has been completely re -made – and is like a prison – while Carrie (Mamie gummer) Packing Beechwood at night as a result of his insomnia.
The episode is reported by backfalls between summer 16 (before the accident) and summer 17 (today) as cadence begins to get her memory back after reuniting with the liars.
In summer 16, cadence finds her kiss with a gat (Shubham Maheshwari) means he cheated on his girlfriend at home. Both go into a huge battle, ending with a cadence in tears and drinking with Johnny (Joseph ass).
Today’s cadence in the summer of 17 finds a letter that Gat intended to send to his girlfriend – but he never did. This leads to a conflict between a cadence and her mother about why the family keeps secrets for her accident.
“Did I try to kill myself, that night in the water? Is that why you tell everyone not to talk about me, because you’re afraid I will do it again?” Cadence asks. Penny tells her that is not what happened, but it still does not offer any answers.

Back in the summer of 16, the Sinclair family celebrates Father’s Day and the moms compete for Harris’ (David Morse) Love with their gifts. When he’s not choosing a favorite from Penny, Carrie and Bess (Candice King), it is revealed that a sister is missing.
“Let’s be real, we’re not standing chances. None of us are going to be his favorite daughter. We grew up, we got messy, and Harris hates a mess, so her favorite is always the girl who wouldn’t grow up,” explains Carrie, referring to a potential death for brothers and sisters.
The three girls are sitting with their mother, Tipper (Wendy Crewson), outside for the rest of the evening. When they get up to go to bed, a tipper seems to have fallen asleep – however she can’t wake up.
“Beechwood is a fairytale story in our sand -made castles, we ignore signs of trouble, we pretend our pain away,” said Cadence’s voiceover as Tipper’s body is discovered. “But not all myths end happily, some heroes stories have no heroes. Sometimes all the king’s horses and the king’s men never put the pieces together again. Sometimes the castle stumbles.”
