For the sixth time, the United States has vetoed a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council, which would require immediate and constant ceasefire in gas and hostage release.
The deputy US envoy in the Middle East Morgan Ortag said that the text did not go far enough, condemning Hamas or recognizes Israel’s right to defense.
All 14 other members of the Security Council voted in favor of the draft resolution – which describes the humanitarian gas situation as a “catastrophic” and urged Israel to lift all the restrictions on assistance.
This happens when the UN humanitarian office warns that the last rescue is falling apart when Israel is expanding its military offensive.
On the global scene Israel and its closest ally look more isolated.
Speaking to the vote, Ortag said that counteraction to Washington to the resolution “should not be a surprise”.
“It does not condemn Hamas or recognizes Israel’s right to defend himself, and it is incorrectly legitimized by false stories that benefit Hamas, which, unfortunately, have found currency in this council,” she said.
After the vote, UN members quickly responded to express their disappointment.
The Palestinian UN Ambassador -Riada Mansur called the US decision “deeply regret and excruciating”, saying that this prevented the Security Council “to play its legitimate role in the face of these atrocities.”
Pakistan’s ambassador Asim Ahmad called the veto “a dark moment in this camera.”
“The world is watching. The shouts of children must pierce our hearts,” he said.
Omar Bendjam, Ambassador Algeria, apologized to the Palestinian people.
“Palestinian brothers, Palestinian sisters, forgive us,” he said.
“Excuse us because the world speaks of the rights, but denies them to the Palestinians. Excuse them, because our efforts, our sincere efforts destroyed on this wall refusal.”
This UN last vote has taken place in a few days before the world leaders are going to the UN General Assembly where the expected Independent Palestinian State.
Thousands of people continue to escape in Gaza against the backdrop of constant deadly attacks when Israeli tanks and troops continue to move on the third day of the land.
The UN Humanitarian Service Press Society Olga Chereva told the BBC that the situation in Gaza -Sity “nothing is missing the cataclysm”.
The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the attack under the guidance of Hamas on South Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and took 251 people hostage.
At least 65 141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health of the territory.
The ministry states that another 435 people have still died during the war as a result of malnutrition and hunger, including four in the last 24 hours.
