We are negotiating in Paris with Europeans

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witcooff and Mark Rubio’s main diplomat will negotiate with European counterparts in Paris today to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

Negotiations – which will also be visited by British Foreign Minister David Lami, is the highest level of transatlantic participation in the war since February.

In recent months, the US government has not quite rushed to consult with European allies.

Thursday meetings are important to them when nothing else. Witcof and Rubio will see the President of France Emmanuel Macron and his team.

Then the US Secretary of State will hold talks with Lami together with French and German counterparts. European National Security Advisers will also participate.

The US State Department said the focus would be on how to end the fighting in Ukraine, and Vitkoff will report his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

European diplomats have said they urge the US to put more pressure on Russia to agree with the unconditional ceasefire.

“We want the US to use a little more stick,” one official said.
