“We are in our best time”

Unai Emery believes that Aston Villa experiences his “best moment” after a convincing 4-1 victory over the companions of the Premier League Top Chasers Newcastle on Saturday.

Ollie Watkins scored after 33 seconds to give the hosts lead to Villa Park and, in doing so, reached the level with Gabriel Agbonlahor as the club’s record scorer at the Premier League.

Watkins twice hit the carpentry before Fabian Schar went to Newcastle, who entered the game at the back of a six -game victory.

But this race ended here as three unanswered goals from Ian Maatsen, Amadou Onana, and a goal of Dan Burn gave Villa a victory in his push for another season of the Champions League football.

The result also expands the impressive record from Villa to home at 19 competitive games without defeat.

“We focused on this game,” Emery told Sky Sports.

“I was completely happy about how we responded. We can’t waste time. We’re in our best time now.”

In a post-party interview, Watkins admitted that he was “smoking” after leaving out of the start line in the 3-2 Champions League victory over PSG in the middle week, but Emery was full of praise for his striker.

“He played fantastic. His commitment is always high and this is the competitiveness we want,” Emery said.

Villa is in action against another contestant for an end of the first five places at the Manchester City of Pep Guardiola.

Emery’s side goes to the Etihad on Tuesday evening before taking the Crystal Palace at the Wembley Cup semifinal on Saturday.

In front of the mid -week trip to the city, the head of the town said: “Manchester City is doing fantastic. They are not as consistent as before, but they are still the contestants to be in the top five.

“It is a challenge and we feel strong and we hope to go. But it will be very difficult, but this is the challenge we want.”
