The WBO has officially ordered Sam Noakes’s number 1 to begin negotiations to face the number 2 Abdullah Mason for the light and vacant title. The two fighters have 20 days to make an agreement.
It is a great step for Noakes (17-0, 15 kos), who has been fighting nationally throughout his six-year career. He has ranked first with WBO, but his resume is steric of the contenders. There is no contestant in the Noaukes curriculum.
On paper, this is a terrible mismatch in favor of Mason. This struggle will make the WBO look bad for giving the unprepared and limited to a ranking number 1 without demonstrating. As an organization, you want to make realistic options for the rankings. Put Noakes at number 1 doesn’t make sense.
The WBO obviously has its reasons to give Noakes a number 1 rankings, but the reality is that it is not at the level of half the opponents Mason has fought in the past. As such, it is a preliminary conclusion that Abdullah (19-0, 17 kos) will win and will be the next Light Wbo champion.
The fans wanted the WBO to order Abdullah Mason to fight against Edwin de los Santos or Andy Cruz for the vacancy of 135 lb, not from Noaukes. These two would have been much more dignified for Mason to fight for the vacant title.
Mason is too young for the title?
There is a little concern that Mason, 21, is too young to fight 27 and should wait. Some people believe that even if Abdullah captures the Vacant Wbo title with a victory, he is too young to keep his belt against the wolves that will come to him.
The upper rank cannot protect Mason as they have been doing with their careful combination once it was champion. Once he owns the Wbo title, there will be a goal on the back and the predators of the light division will come for him. Predly, the upper rank will prevent fighters such as Andy Cruz, Raymond Muratalla, Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis. Mason is too green to fight any of these four fighters.
The Wbo title became vacant after the former Keyshawn Davis champion lost weight for his defense of his title against Los Santos last Friday. Davis had an overweight of 4.3 pounds, which some fans considered that he was an intentional foul on his part to gain an advantage or avoid the fight completely. Ultimately, the combat was canceled after Los Santos’s direction decided not to pass.
