In the 25th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, Brisbane Heat i Sydney Thunderstorm provided a thrilling encounter at the Gabba, Brisbane. The match witnessed an impressive bowling display by the Brisbane Heat’s Spencer Johnsonwho made a crucial breakthrough when he sacked the Sydney Thunder captain, David Warner.
Spencer Johnson, an exceptional yorker
It all happened in the 15th over of the Sydney Thunders innings when Johnson bowled Warner, who was in the middle of a well-built innings. Warner, the Thunder captain, had just reached his fifty and looked set to add to his total. However, in an attempt to be cheeky, he attempted a reverse sweep. Johnson, ever the professional, bowled a brilliant yorker length ball, full and straight, completely beating the batsman. The left-hander missed the ball, which crashed into the stumps, sending the Aussie star back into the pavilion. Warner got out for a well-made 50 runs off 36 balls, including 7 boundaries.

Johnson was nothing short of outstanding in his four-plus spell. The left-arm fast bowler displayed remarkable accuracy and skill, picking up three key wickets in his spell, proving to be Brisbane Heat’s standout bowler. His contribution was instrumental in restricting Sydney Thunder’s total.
Sydney Thunder sets a competitive target
He was asked to bat first, Sydney Thunder posted a competitive total of 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in his 20 overs. Warner was the leading run-scorer for the Thunder, and his half-century was a highlight of his innings. Alongside Johnson’s brilliance, Brisbane Heat’s Miquel Neser he also played a pivotal role with the ball. Neser claimed 2 wickets and was the most economical bowler in the match, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 6.20, which helped restrict the Thunder’s progress.
