Pakistan produced a commanding performance to secure a 127-run victory over the West Indies in the opening Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday (January 19). Despite early batting hiccups, the hosts showed resilience with the bat and brilliance with the ball to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. One of the highlights of the match was Salman’s thrilling catch on Day 3. The incident happened in West Indies’ 35th innings when Open Ahmed he bowled a length ball outside off that bounced awkwardly off the surface. Pakistan’s bowlers were the architects of their victory, exploiting the conditions to perfection. Sajid Khan emerged as the main destroyer, taking nine wickets in both innings. His fifer on Day 3 was instrumental in ending West Indies’ second innings for just 123 runs. Abrar also played a pivotal role, claiming four wickets in the second innings, including key dismissals like this one Gudakesh Movement and Jomel Warrican.
The West Indies batting line-up crumbled under the pressure, failing to get past 150 in either innings. They were bowled out for 137 in the first innings and 123 in the second, leaving them well short of Pakistan’s target. Pakistan’s spinners took advantage of the variable offering of bounce and spin, leaving the visiting batsmen scrambling for answers.
The teams will meet again at the Multan Cricket Stadium for the second and final Test, which will begin on January 25.
