In the exciting world of T20 cricket, moments of brilliance can change the course of a match and etch players into the memories of fans. One such moment happened recently Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL) clash between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Wednesday (January 1). Cricketer of Indian origin Nikhil Chaudhary he delivered a mind-blowing performance, highlighted by a stunning 80m six that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
The game started with the Sixers winning the toss and electing to play first. The Hurricanes started strong, with Mitchell Owen (33 off 17) leading the charge, hitting several boundaries on the side Matthew Wade. Their partnership of 45 runs provided a solid foundation for the innings. However, the momentum changed when Owen was sacked by Hayden Kerrleaving the necessary equipment to regroup.
As the innings progressed, it was during the 12th over that Chaudhary made his mark. Facing a Dwarshuis delivery at 134.5kph, pitched on a good length with a line of medium stump, Chaudhary showed impeccable timing and power. With a perfectly executed swing of his bat, he launched the ball an impressive 80 meters over the front fence at square leg, leaving the crowd in awe. After the first layoffs, Chaudhary joined with Ben McDermott to stabilize inputs. Their partnership was marked by strategic play; they initially took a cautious approach before capitalizing on the Power Surge, amassing 33 runs during this crucial phase. McDermott led the way with aggressive hitting, while Chaudhary complemented him effectively, allowing the Hurricanes to build a commendable score.
Unfortunately, as is often the case in cricket, fortunes can change quickly. Both McDermott (34 off 25) and Chaudhary (42 off 31) were victims of quick dismissals by Jackson Bird (4 by 16) i Jack Edwards (1 for 31), halting his drive. Despite a late cameo from Chris Jordanwho added valuable runs in the final overs, the Hurricanes ended their innings at 161/6 after 20 overs.
In reply, the Sixers struggled to find their footing, collapsing to just 111 runs in 19.3 overs and losing the match by 50 runs. The Hurricanes bowlers put in an outstanding performance, with Chris Jordan claiming three wickets for 22 runs and Waqar Salamkheil also taking two crucial wickets. The Sixers’ innings was marred by early setbacks, losing key batsmen like Josh Philippe i James Vince cheap Ultimately, the Hurricanes’ all-out effort earned a convincing victory, propelling them up the points table and showing their potential as strong tournament contenders.
