Liam Dawson produced a stunning moment of brilliance during the 14th game of SA20 2025 at St George’s Park, leaving fans and players in awe. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape all-rounder showed incredible athleticism and reflexes to grab a one-handed punt, dismissing JJ Smuts and further derailing the innings of the Durban Super Giants.
The impressive effort came in the 5th over of the Durban innings. Richard Gleeson he bowled a good length ball just outside off, which JJ Smuts punches forward. For a fleeting moment, the ball looked destined for the boundary, but Dawson had other plans. Sprinting to his right, Dawson reached out his weaker hand and latched onto the ball, defying logic and physics. The fact that the ball had already passed him when he caught elevated the effort to one of the best catches of the tournament so far.
Smuts was stunned, Quinton de Kock He could hardly believe his eyes in the dressing room, and the Durban Super Giants found themselves in deeper trouble as Dawson’s brilliance added to their woes.

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape bowlers, led by the efforts of Marco Jansen and Gleeson, capitalized on the early advances, bundling the Durban Super Giants out for a paltry 115/8 in 20 overs. Kane Williamson‘s patient 44 was the only bright spot for the batting side, while Naveen-ul-Haq’s final 30-ball cameo of 15 provided some resistance.
In reply, Sunrisers chased down the target comfortably in 15.2 overs, with David Bedingham‘s blazing 39 from 20 balls and Aiden Markrammade 31 of 20 sealing the victory.
While the Sunrisers produced an all-round performance to secure a six-wicket victory, Dawson’s one-handed wonder was undoubtedly the highlight of the match.
