The 9th match of the SA20 2025 saw Paarl Royals (PR) to face MI Cape Town (MICT) at Boland Park. The meeting was marked by a spectacular moment Joe Rootwho showed that his bowling can be as impactful as his renowned batting skills. Root’s brilliant delivery resulted in MI Cape Town’s dismissal George Linde.

The 16th over of MI Cape Town’s innings saw Root produce an exceptional delivery. With Linde at the crease, Root produced a round arm ball that stunned everyone. Linde, attempting a sweep, misjudged the bounce of the ball. The white leather crept under his bat and ripped off his stump, sending him back to the pavilion for 10 runs off 10 balls. Linde’s exit left MI Cape Town 4 wickets down.

Although Root’s performance with the bat in this match was brief as in the sixth over of the Paarl Royals innings, Root faced new zealand calm down Trent Boult. Batting first, MI Cape Town posted a total of 158/4 in their 20 overs. The entrance was anchored by Rassie van der Dussenwho played a masterful knock of 91 runs off 64 balls. Van der Dussen’s performance, which included 16 and 7 fours, provided the backbone of MI Cape Town’s total.
In reply, Paarl Royals needed 159 runs to secure victory and achieved the target with 6 wickets in hand. Juan-dre Pretorius he was the star for the Royals, playing an exceptional innings of 83 runs. Pretorius’ composed stroke led his team to victory.
