Watch- Jasprit Bumrah surprisingly leaves Sydney during 5th Test; India without a captain

In a worrying moment for the Indian cricket team, captain and opener Jasprit Bumrah has suffered an injury on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Saturday (4 of January).

The India star has left the field several times and only bowled after lunch before returning to the dressing room for treatment. He was sidelined for more than half an hour in the ongoing New Year Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

The India skipper bowled just one at the start of the session before walking off the field and hasn’t returned since. It is also confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah underwent a scan at a hospital in Sydney. Officially there is no update on Bumrah but currently India are without their captain at the SCG.

Any injury to Bumrah could be a major setback for the Indian cricket team as they aim to salvage the New Year Test to level the ongoing five-match Test series and retain the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia Notably, Sarfaraz Khan stepped up as Bumrah’s stand-in fielder.

The injury scare for India came after the 31st over when Bumrah left the field, and was later replaced by Mohammed Siraj. The tourists are currently short of Bumrah but the others are stepping up with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna taking two wickets each.

Live footage from the official broadcasters showed Bumrah leaving the stadium with his training kit, accompanied by two members of the support staff, for a scan.

We just felt it wasn’t right: Ravi Shastri to Jasprit Bumrah

Ravi Shastri told the Fox Cricket broadcast: “He’s going to see some doctors, he’s going to have scans … we’ll know more in a little while. We just had a feeling he wasn’t right. That could have a big influence on the series”. In his absence, Virat Kohli is leading the Indian team in the Sydney Test.

Unfortunately, the extreme workload has taken its toll on Jasprit Bumrah, who has been India’s only consistent player in the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The Indian pacer has probably played more than other players in the Indian team Down Under.

Bumrah has so far picked two wickets in his 10 overs in the ongoing New Year Test. In all, he has picked 32 wickets in the ongoing Test series. Speaking of the match, Australia still trail by 10 runs, with India needing a wicket to end the hosts’ innings in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

These shenanigans don’t look nice: Rohit Sharma to Sam Konstas

Prasidh Krishna is leading the way in Bumrah’s absence, taking three quick wickets at the SCG. Earlier, Rohit Sharma had criticized Sam Konstas for hitting Jasprit Bumrah unnecessarily in the final session of the ongoing Sydney Test.

Reacting to the heated moment, Rohit told the broadcaster, “Our boys are only silent till a certain point. If you go to poke them, they will retaliate. We are all here to play cricket. Please don’t do these Nonsense. These shenanigans are very classy. We only focus on the task at hand. It was important for us to deal with one or two wickets at the time in order to keep the pressure on Australia.”
