The 18th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between the Hobart Hurricanes i Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, featured an extraordinary moment that left fans in awe. During the game, a freak incident occurred when a batsman’s shot inadvertently hit the umpire, creating a memorable highlight in an already drama-filled game.
The unusual event unfolded in the Hurricanes’ 19th innings when the Sydney Sixers bowler Ben Dwarshuis delivered a complete and direct delivery to Chris Jordan. Jordan lifted the ball into the air towards the bowler, and Dwarshuis managed to get a hand on it, but was unable to complete the catch. As the ball bounced off his hand, he hit the back of the referee, who had turned to try to avoid the incoming ball. Fortunately, the pace of the ball was slowed by Dwarshuis’ touch, and the umpire escaped unscathed.

Despite the unusual incident, Jordan made headlines for his integral contribution to the Hurricanes’ dominating victory. In the first innings, Jordan, batting in the lower order, added valuable runs, scoring 16 not out off 11 balls, including a six. His contribution helped propel Hobart Hurricanes to a competitive total.
Jordan’s heroics didn’t end there. In the second innings, he delivered a match-defining bowling performance, claiming three crucial wickets. His right-arm medium-fast deliveries rocked the Sydney Sixers’ batting line-up and set the tone for a commanding victory.
