One of the choices that is to be soon CassetteThe 1995 Crime Epic by Director Martin Scorsesewhich is loosely based on the lives of real people.
Although this film is not as respectful as some of Scorsese’s earlier efforts, it is another tremendous achievement for the filmmaker.

Some directors would retreat from revisiting one of their most commendable hits. However, scorsese gave Cassette together with two of his major actors of Goodfellas. Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. Nicholas pileggiWho cowrote the screenshot for GoodfellasAlso collaborated with Scorsese on this film, which was based on his non -fiction book, Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas.
Although both films deal with organized crime, they have very different shades. Goodfellas Celebrate the highs and lows of men who could not control their darkest motivations. On the contrary, CassetteLas Vegas’ vision practically invites all character’s worst aspects to emerge, as greed and jealousy threatens lifelong friendships.

De Niro plays Sam’s “Ace” Rothstein, a man sent by the Chicago Mob to run Casino Tangiers while sending the unreported profits back to the east. Many earlier de Niro characters have been dependent on his ability to behave dreadfully or threaten. Sam stands apart from those characters because his crimes do not rely on violence, and he is basically a show man.
Sam thinks he has his controlled casino, but he’s even fascinated by Vegas temptations. He is also blinded by love until he marries a show show, Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone), he obviously doesn’t feel the same way about it. Sam’s era as a local television host reveals a fundamental desire to stay in the magnifying glass regardless of the wishes of his employers. If that sounds like a recipe for a disaster, that’s because it is. Sam can do terrible things too, yet he holds hold of the audience’s sympathy throughout the film.

One of CassetteThe biggest achievements is that it makes Las Vegas in the ’70s look like a lot of fun. The missing city has more than life quality in the modern Vegas era. It feels dangerous and exciting because the presence of the mafia is a rare hidden secret. Sin City did not win his nickname by accident, and he has a bang for bringing the worst in everyone.
That’s especially true of Nicky Santoro from Pesci. Before the film, Nicky and Sam were very close friends. But once Nicky is released on Las Vegas, almost all of his criminal impulses threaten to tear the thin layer of respect that Sam brought to the casino. The degenerative friendship between Sam and Nicky may be the tragic turn of the story. It’s one thing for ginger to betray the love and trust of Sam – she was always a snake. But when Sam and Nicky’s friendship is shattered, it feels like a real loss.
Cassette also gets great performances from the auxiliary cast, especially James Woods and the recent Don Rickles. Their characters, Lester Diamond and Billy Sherbert, add to the secret of Las Vegas even as Cassette makes it clear that the best days of the city could be behind it.
Cassette streaming on Hbo max Through August 31.
