Russian President Vladimir Putin said he agreed with the idea of ceasefire in Ukraine, but these “questions” remained about the character of the truce when he posted a number of harsh conditions.

Russian President replied Plan 30-day ceasefireWhat Ukraine has agreed earlier this week after negotiations with the United States.

President of Ukrainian Volodimir Zelensky called Putin’s reaction to the “manipulative” plan and called for more sanctions on Russia.

Meanwhile, the US has placed further sanctions on Russian oil, gas and banking sectors.

Speaking to a press conference in Moscow on Thursday, Putin said about the ceasefire: “The idea is correct – and we support it – but there are issues that we need to discuss.”

The ceasefire should lead to “lasting peace and removal of this crisis,” Putin said.

“We need to negotiate with our American colleagues and partners,” he said. “Maybe I’ll call Donald Trump.”

Putin added: “For the Ukrainian side it will be good to reach a 30-day ceasefire.

“We stand for it, but there are nuances.”

One of the regions of the dispute is the Russian region of Kursk, Putin said, where last year Ukraine launched a military invasion and seized some territory.

He claimed that Russia had completely returned under control over Kursk, and said that the Ukrainian troops were “isolated” there.

“They are trying to leave, but we control. Their equipment was abandoned.”

“Kursk has two options for Ukrainians – surrender or die.”

Puting some of his questions about how the ceasefire will work, Putin asked: “How will these 30 days be used? To make Ukraine mobilized?

“Who will give the order to finish the fight? At what cost? Who decides who violated any possible ceasefire, more than 2000 km? All these issues need careful work on both sides. Who considers it?”

Putin “does not say directly,” Zelensky said in his night video, but “in practice he is preparing a refusal.”

“Putin, of course, is afraid to tell President Trump directly what he wants to continue this war, wants to kill the Ukrainians.”

The Russian leader has established so many preconditions that “nothing will happen,” Zelensky said.

After Putin’s remarks and Zelensky’s reaction, there is now a clear gap between the positions of both sides.

Ukraine wants a two -stage process: a rapid ceasefire, and then tells about a long -term settlement.

Russia believes you cannot share two processes and all issues should be resolved in one transactions. Both sides seem to be satisfied to assert their differences.

Ukraine believes that this can put pressure on Russia, staining it as a reluctant peacemaker, playing time. Russia, equally, believes that it has a chance to arise the main problems, about the expansion of NATO and the sovereignty of Ukraine.

But this is a problem for Donald Trump. He made it clear that he wanted a quick result, ending the fighting on the days.

And now Putin does not seem to want to play the ball.

Donald Trump said he hoped that Russia will “do correctly”

Speaking at the White House after Putin’s remarks, Trump said he “loved” to meet the Russian leader, and that he hoped that Russia would “do the right” and agree with the 30-day truce offered.

“We would like to see the ceasefire from Russia,” he said.

Speaking earlier at a meeting in the Oval Cabinet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rute, Trump told reporters that he had already discussed specifics with Ukraine.

“We discussed with the land of Ukraine and pieces of land that will be stored and lost, and all other elements of the final agreement,” Trump said.

“Many details of the final agreement were actually discussed.”

Trump said on the topic of Ukraine, which will join the NATO military alliance: “Everyone knows what it is.”

Fresh sanctions on Russian oil and gas came when Trump administration further restricted access to US payment systems, which makes it difficult to buy Russian oil.

Meanwhile, Putin met us with a special messenger Steve Witcooff behind closed doors in Moscow.

Earlier this day Kremlin’s Assistant Yuri Ushakov rejected Offer to cease the fire highlighted by the United States.

On Wednesday, Putin visited the Russian region of Kursk, symbolically dressed in military fatigue. Later, Russia stated that this was restored by the key city.
