India’s former coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his disappointment in the way in which the Star Batter’s Test Career Kohli ended. Shastri said Kohli’s retirement could have been better handled and added that he should have been a test captain after 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Wanted Kohli had a disappointing exit with the bat during the series of tests against Australia, where the team lost 1-3. Kohli announced his retirement from the test cricket last month. He made his decision just before the cycle of the World ICC Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, which will begin on June 20.

There should have been more communication. If he had something to see, he would have made him a captain immediately after Australia,” said Shastri.

Kohli announced his retirement from the test cricket just a week after Rohit Sharma turned away from the format. The Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, named Shubman Gill to lead the test. His first challenge as Captain will be the next five -game series against England.

Virated Kohli finished his test career as the most successful captain of India in the format, registering 40 wins of 68 games. India dominated the ICC test rankings until the end of 2010 and reached the final of the inaugural World Test Championship by 2021.
Kohli brought India to a historic victory of the 2-1 series in Australia in 2018-19, his first in Australian Soil. He also guided the team to a 2-1 lead in England in 2021 before the final test was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The 36 -year -old man finished his red ball trip like the fourth scorer in India in tests, accumulating 9,230 runs to an average of almost 47 in the 123 games. Scored 30 centuries, just behind Sachin tendulkar, Rahul Dravidand Sunil Gavaskar between Indian baptisms.
However, the latter part of his career declined in shape, with only three centuries in his last 39 games. The next Indian Test Tour in England will be his first without Kohli in the squad since 2011.
