Former Australian national cricket team player Brad Hogg spoke about the issues surrounding Kohli, especially after he failed in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said off-field commitments are also the reason for his poor performance.
Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli has been struggling to get going with the bat in Test cricket. The leading batsman has averaged well below his standards, and even his place in the team has also come under scrutiny, with many calls to drop him.

In the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Virat Kohli managed just 190 runs and looked torrid with the bat. He hit a century in the first match, and it looked like he was going to set the stage on fire, but he was not to be, as he failed miserably in the other 4 matches.
Kohli bowled outside off as Australia’s pacers were all over the bat. In the series, he averaged 23.75. Overall in the last 10 tests, the Indian national cricket team batsman has scored 392 runs in his last 10 tests at an average of 23.05 which is way below his standards.

Brad Hogg, while talking about Kohli’s struggles, said that he has other commitments now, which were not there when he was in his prime. He said the off-field drama has made it not work so well at the moment. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“And suddenly, now he has a family. He has other commitments off the field that he didn’t have when he was dominating all three formats around the world. So it’s not just about cricket, it’s what happens. off the field as well.”
“I think it’s more the off-field drama than the on-field drama plus Virat Kohli. I just think he’s got too much on his plate that’s probably caused him not to work as well at the moment.”

Brad Hogg added that the amount of cricket Kohli plays has also had an impact on his performances. He pointed out that after the hectic international cricket, he has to play IPL for RCB as well. He elaborated:
“I think it’s probably more the volume of cricket that’s been played at the moment because you try to play as much as you can for India in all three formats. And then you’ve got the IPL and it goes on for a week or two like bye.”
“So there is also a lot of pressure because the owners spend a lot of money on IPL players. Virat Kohli is the elite player in RCB. So there is a lot of pressure on him.”
