Former Australian National Cricket Team player Simon Katich attacked Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli for his poor performances with the bat in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He made a bold statement, saying that the king is now dead.
Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli’s bad run with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 continued as he failed in both innings of the fourth Test. His poor outings with the bat were a major reason for the team’s loss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.
Kohli looked positive with the bat in the first innings as the lead batsman looked in high spirits and didn’t look at balls being bowled outside off. He batted for a longer period of time but could not maintain his focus while hitting the ball outside.
Kohli was returning to the hut after scoring 35 runs, and with the way he batted in the first innings, it looked like he would bring his best in the second innings. But in what was his worst effort, he returned to the hut early in the second innings, leaving the Indian national cricket team in deep trouble.
What was frustrating for many was that Kohli was once again chasing the ball outside off. The lead batsman went for a ball but ended up looping it once more to be caught on the run out Usman Khawaja. He scored 5 runs off 29 balls before playing the ball, which was pitched in the fourth and fifth stump gully by Mitchell Starc.
Virat Kohli getting out in the same way led Simon Katich, who was commentating, to face the Indian National Cricket Team batsman. He said that the right-hand man is no longer the King as the mantle has been taken jasprit bumrah. Speaking on air, he explained:
“The king is dead. He walks away. King Bumrah has taken the mantle now. Kohli looks down on himself. That was a big blow for him. He fell short. Australia will be very, very happy with the situation they will find themselves in.”
Virat Kohli, who scored a magnificent century in Perth, has been extremely torrid with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Apart from that innings, he has failed to get going and managed just 61 runs in other matches.
In total, in 2024, Virat Kohli scored 417 runs this year at an average of 24.52. The lead batsman will be under pressure to perform in the next match. The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy is 2-1 in favor of the Australian National Cricket Team. The match will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on January 3.
