Vinod Kambli leaves hospital, advises against alcohol and drugs


Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was discharged from Akruti Hospital in Thane district on January 1, 2025. After battling a urinary infection and severe cramps for nearly two weeks, doctors discovering clots in his brain, which made his recovery even more remarkable.

As he left the hospital, Kambli sported the iconic Indian jersey, a nod to his cricketing roots. Addressing the waiting media, he shared a heartfelt message, urging people to avoid alcohol and narcotics.

“Enjoy life, don’t drink alcohol,” Kambli said, renewed energy in his voice.

A lively press conference at the exit

Before leaving, Kambli held a brief press conference where his humor and resilience shone through.

“This doctor (Thakur) got me fit. I said I will leave only when I am ready,” joked Kambli. Reflecting on his recovery journey, he added, “I only hit four and six here in the hospital !”

He also expressed his determination to return to cricket, vowing, “I will show the people of Shivaji Park that I, Vinod Kambli, will not quit cricket.”

Welcoming 2025, Kambli wished everyone a Happy New Year and shared an important life lesson.

“Stay away from alcohol and drugs,” he urged. “Vices can ruin your life. Enjoy the new year and live well.”

Kambli’s life has always been linked to cricket. He and Sachin Tendulkar grabbed world attention as a teenager when they broke an unbeaten partnership of 664 runs in a Harris Shield match. Kambli scored 349 runs while Tendulkar added 326.
