If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight this year in 2025, who would win?
The rivalry between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is one that has been around for years, but it has only existed outside the ring and in theoretical terms. Once upon a time, Fury was the WBC and lineal heavyweight champion of the world, Joshua was the unified IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, and the expectation was that these two would have an inevitable showdown for supremacy undisputed heavyweight. That never happened, though.
Right now, Fury and Joshua are showing signs of decline. Joshua has a 6-4 record in his last 10 fights, which included a loss against Andy Ruiz Jr, a pair of losses against reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, and was most recently destroyed by Daniel Dubois. Fury is coming off consecutive losses, the only 2 of his professional career, both against Usyk. In the end, neither Fury nor Joshua proved to be the best in this era. Instead, it was Oleksandr Usyk who conquered the division, and he did so in very impressive style, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in the modern era of 4 belts after his first of two wins against Fury.
As for Usyk, the next most logical opponent for him would be the winner of the upcoming fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker. However, the winner of that fight could have a chance at a much bigger payday than he would against Usyk if he instead defends against Fury, or especially against Joshua. Short of that, assuming the winner of Dubois-Parker takes on Usyk next, then a Fury-AJ fight makes a lot of sense for both Fury and Joshua.
The truth is, even though neither is a champion, and even though both are past their prime, a Fury vs. Joshua fight remains an interesting prospect with lasting legacy implications for both heavyweights. It would also undoubtedly still be a great event where both fighters would be in line for big money.
