The United States has removed millions of dollars in belonging from the senior members of the Khakani militants in Afghanistan, including its Sirajuddin Haqqani leader, which is also the Taliban Interior Minister.
This is a significant step, given that the HAQQANI network is accused of conducting some high -profile and deadly attacks in Afghanistan during the war under the leadership of the United States in the country, including attacks on US and Indian embassies and NATO forces.
Currently, the network is a key part of the Taliban government, which has been controlled by Afghanistan since the foreign troops left the country in 2021, after the transaction between the US and the Taliban during the first Trump president.
The transition to raising the affiliation comes within the second term of President Trump, and a few days after US officials met with the Taliban government to Kabul to ensure the release of an American tourist detained since 2022.
The US State Department spokesman confirmed the BBC that “there is no current award” for Sirajuddin Haqqani, his brother Abdullah Hakani and Schwri Yahia Khakani, but they remain “specially designated global terrorists, and the Hakani network remains as a foreign terrorist organization.”
The FBI web page, which showed that at $ 10 million on Sirajuddin Haqqani, is now updated to delete the award.
The press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Taliban Abdul Maten Horse, told the BBC that the rise of belonging “was as a result of prolonged diplomatic efforts” by his government. “This is a good step, and it shows our new interaction with the world and especially with the US. They (the US delegation) told us that they want to increase positive interaction and confidence between us,” he added.
On Saturday, the US delegation, including the hostage services Adam Bolera and the former envoy in Afghanistan, Zalma Khalilsad, met with Foreign Minister Talibes Amir Khan Mutaki and other Taliban officials in Kabul. Then then, then, National American George Glezman, The detained in December 2022 during an Afghan visit as a tourist, was released by the Taliban government.
It is unclear when the lifting of belonging was part of the negotiations.
Founded by the father of the Sirajuddin Haqqani, Jaladin Hakani in the 1980s, the Haqqani network began as an anti-Soviet outfit that works in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But this grew into one of the most afraid of anti-Western militants in the region.
The group united with the Taliban when they first took power in Afghanistan in 1996. Jalaludin Hakani died of a long illness in 2018.
Currently, Sirajuddin Haqqani is the power of power in the Taliban government in Afghanistan when they are torn between it and the High leader of the Taliban Mullah Ahundadad.
Taliban government members said BBC that the issue of women’s education is a key point of difference between the two sides.
Khakani sought to design themselves as a more moderate, galvanized support among people in the country who are disappointed with the unwanted supreme leader in the field of women’s education.
The fall in the US government’s affiliation indicates that its growth is also growing outwardly, among the parts of the international community seeks to interact with the Taliban.
