The US Supreme Court has ordered Trump administration to stop the deportation of the accused members of the Venezueel gang by the law of wartime of the 18th century.
A group of civil liberties sues the administration for the planned deportations of Venezuelans held in the Northern Texas detention center.
On Saturday, the Supreme Court obliged the government “not to remove any member of the alleged class of detainees from the United States before the further order of this court.”
The justice of Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alita diverged.
President Donald Trump appealed to the law on foreign enemies in 1798 and accused the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TDA) of “committing, attempting and threatening or predatory invasion” in the US.
Of the 261 Venezuelans deported on April 8, the notorious mega-Jel in Salvador, 137 were removed in accordance with the law on foreign enemies, said a senior CBS News Administration, a US BBC partner.
On March 15, the lower court temporarily blocked these deportations.
In the lawsuit of the US Civil Liberty Union (ACLU), which led to the order on Saturday, the organization stated that without the intervention of the court, “dozens or hundreds of the offered members of the class may be removed in a possible life imprisonment without real opportunity to challenge their appointment and removal.”
