Terence Crawford was raised at # 1 to updated pounds of pounds for pounds after his victory over the Super indisputable champion Canelo Alvarez last Saturday night at the Allegant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The ring panel has placed Crawford (42-0, 31 ko) above the previous Oleksandr Usyk #1 in the first place in the free free ranking. It is a purely subjective choice on the panel, but it doesn’t make much sense.
I don’t think Crawford deserves to be ranked among the top 5, as their victories in the last five years are not good enough. Alvarez, 35, had already shown signs of fading since his loss in Dmitry Bivol in 2022, and seemed like a broken shell of his old self in his last three fights against these fighters:
Comprehensibly, boxing fans on social networks are angry because the usyk ring staff, as Crawford got much more cleaning the heavy weight division defeating these three: Anthony Joshua X 2, Tyson Fury X 2 and Daniel Dubois.
Why Crawford does not deserve #1 pound for pounds
Crawford’s performance was not the domination that some fans mistakenly believe. It was a very close fight and could have gone on the other side, as Terence did not move away until the championship was rounded after Canelo got rid of.
The way some fans talk about, they think it was a unilateral struggle with Crawford winning 9-3 or 10-2. Suggests that they really did not see the struggle on Netflix, because it wasn’t this kind of struggle. Crawford’s offense was too inconsistent during the first eight rounds to give it a credit to win more than two.
Canelo constantly pushed the past through nine rounds, disembarking the hardest features and chasing a reluctant and old crawford around the ring. It was not a type of effort #1 of Crawford pound. In fact, I don’t think it was worthy of even the number 10.
