UN top official warned that there would be “catastrophic consequences” when Israel expands its military action into Gaza, after the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reports, pushes to full attention.
Assistant Secretary -General Miroslav Jench said at the UN Security Council meeting such a step will be “deeply disturbing” if it is true, and more Palestinians, as well as Israeli hostages stored by Hamas, can threaten the life.
Israeli media reported that Netanyahu plans to meet with his security office this week.
“Die was lifted. We are going to conquer the gas strip – and winning Hamas,” said a senior Israeli official.
The safety office, which is due on Thursday, must approve such an action.
It is suggested that this plan could become a tactic of Hamas pressure talks after a recent break of the fire or attempt to tighten support from the extreme right partners of the Netanyahu coalition.
Israel is facing the mount of international pressure on the humanitarian crisis in the background of images and reports of Palestinians who suffer from hunger or malnutrition.
In his statement, Jench warned from any expansion of Israel’s hostilities.
“This risks a catastrophic consequence for millions of Palestinians and can even threaten the life of the rest of the hostage in the newspaper,” he said.
He added that in accordance with international law, Gaza “is and must remain an integral part of the future Palestinian state.”
Israeli military personnel said it already has operational control over 75% of Gaza, but the new plan proposes to engage in all regions – including in areas where more than two million Palestinians now live.
The proposals were separate in Israel, reports that the chief of the army and other military leaders oppose the strategy.
An unnamed Israeli official replied, saying: “If it does not work for the chief of staff, he has to resign.”
The hostage families have expressed fear that the decision could threaten their loved ones, and 20 out of 50 were considered alive.
Jench repeated the UN Security Council call for ceasefire and immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
Referring to the conditions of “unhappiness” and “inhumane”, which the Palestinians face, he urged Israel to immediately allow the free passage.
“Israel continues to seriously restrict humanitarian aid that enters into gas, and the help allowed to enter is grossly insufficient,” said Jench.
He also condemned the constant violence on the field of food distribution, saying that more than 1,200 Palestinians had been killed since the end of May trying to access food and material.
Last week, the Ministry of Health said in Gaza that the total death toll from October 2023 increased to 154, including 89 children.
It is also reported that more than 60,000 Palestinians were killed as a result of Israel’s military campaign.
UN agencies warn that Gaza has man -made, mass hunger, and this month reported 63 malnutrition.
Earlier, Israel insisted that there were no restrictions on the supply of assistance and no “hunger”.
On October 7, 2023, Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza in response to Hamas’s attack on South Israel, killing about 1,200 people, and another 251 was taken to gas as hostages.
