UEFA will talk to FIFA and IFAB to determine if the rule that Julian Alvarez’s sentence should be reviewed against Real Madrid.
The incident has caused a lot of debate and partly resulted in Atletico Madrid crashed against the Champions League for penalties.
The Argentine striker Alvarez was awarded for kicking the ball twice, essentially shouting -at the foot, which violates Law 14.1.
Referee Szymon Marciniak was informed about what had gone through the VAR and the penalty was undone. Real Madrid won the starting shot 4-2 to advance to a tie in the quarterfinals with Arsenal.

UEFA launches a clearer picture of Alvarez’s incident
UEFA has published a statement this afternoon, that included a lighter video of Alvarez playing the ball twice. The statement said: “Atlético de Madrid asked with UEFA about the incident, which led to the decrease in the killing of the penalty brand of Julián Alvarez at the end of the Champions League game yesterday against Real Madrid.
“Although minimum, the player came in contact with the ball with his foot before kicking.
“UEFA will go into discussions with FIFA and IFAB to determine if the rule must be reviewed in cases where a double touch is not clearly involuntary.”
IFAB is the International Football Association Board: an organization that establishes the rules for the game and, finally, will have the finals open if this law must be changed in particular.
Atletico Chief Simeone is not impressed
Alvarez’s penalty dominated post-party conversation, and Atlético’s head Diego Simeone was not convinced that it was the correct call.
“I just saw the pictures, the referee says that Julian plays the ball with his support leg, but the ball does not move,” he said. “This is debatable, whether it was a goal or not. But I’m proud of my players, I am honestly happy, because we competed in an exemplary way.
“When Julian shot (the penalty), the ball does not even move a little. I imagine they called the VAR and they saw that it was played. I want to believe that they would have seen that he touched it.”
Athleti won 1-0 at night thanks to the goal of Conor Gallagher in the opening minute, but could not find a second during a high game in energy, but of low quality.

The goalkeeper of Madrid, Thibaut Courtois, thought that the right decision had been made on the point of view of Alvarez, and both he and his companions rushed to make his point on the field referee Marciniak.
