Tyson Fury has announced his retirement of boxing…for about the 47th time. This time, he is walking away after back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk. Yes, the same Fury who once said he would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime has decided to call it quits. again maybe
The 36-year-old heavyweight was beaten by Usyk in his December rematch, but no one expected him to throw in the towel on his career just yet. After all, he has retired before. And no retirement. Then he withdrew again. Predicting Fury’s next move is like guessing the weather in Manchester – good luck.
Last week, Anthony Joshua stirred the pot by saying a fight with Fury “had to happen” this year. Saudi boxing heavyweight Turki Alalshikh even hinted that the British blockbuster was a reality. Wembley Stadium was supposedly booked, the fans were buzzing and boxing Twitter was in full meltdown mode.
But no Fury took to social media with one of his cryptic messages:
“Hey everyone, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been great, I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everyone, see you on the other side.”
Dick Turpin? A mask? Is it a retirement speech or an audition for a historical drama?

Let’s face it, Fury’s retirements weigh as much as a featherweight boxer. Remember 2022? After beating Dillian Whyte, he declared his retirement, only to return later that year to fight Derek Chisora. He even made a dramatic speech then:
“Every good dog has its day. As the great Roman leader said, there will always be someone else to fight. When is enough, enough?”
Apparently, “enough” lasts until the next big payday. So is this the end of Tyson Fury’s career? maybe But if history teaches us anything, we’ll see him back in the ring, likely with a new set of excuses and another cryptic Instagram post.
