Tyra Banks opens up about missing her Los Angeles home.
The supermodel, 51, revealed on Monday, January 20, on an Australian morning show Sunrise that she is among the celebrities whose house has burned down in the devastating wildfires which started January 7.
Banks said she and her partner, a businessman Louis Bélanger-Martinshe learned the sad news while in Australia, where she shares her time when not in the US
“I lost my house,” said the first America’s Next Top Model shared host. “I haven’t really talked about it, but, yes, I have. I didn’t want to draw a lot of attention to me. I feel like a lot of people need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not say the truth that we lost our house.”
Banks continued, “We were at a friend’s house here and we were celebrating and having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but for friends and family, making sure they were evacuating and everything. And then I asked my partner, I was like, ‘I see something here, what do you think?’ and he (nodded). And I pulled it together and I didn’t say anything to my friends and just stayed in that moment, and then we went home and we cried and we had our moment.”
Banks noted that she and Bélanger-Martin split their time between Australia and New York, so most of her possessions are safe. “There are a lot of those memento-mementos here and in New York, so I didn’t miss that, thankfully,” he said. “There were some souvenirs we missed … it’s tough.”
Fueled by powerful Santa Ana wind gusts and dry conditions, the wildfires destroyed thousands of homes, displaced residents across Los Angeles, and killed at least 25 people. According to the Associated Pressthe fires burned through 63 square miles of land.
Stars included Spencer Pratt a Heidi Monday, Paris Hilton a Billy Crystal also lost their homes in the fires.
“I didn’t know what to do,” Montag say Us Weekly on Wednesday, January 15, referring to the moment she realized she and her family had to flee the raging fire burning through the Pacific Palisades. “Nothing could have prepared me for that… You just can’t wrap your head around it. I started packing things that made sense – I wasn’t really thinking about anything else.”
Montag, in a panic, revealed that her priority in packing up their lives was “the children’s stuff.” (The Hills alum and Pratt share children Gunnar, 7, and Ryker, 2.)
“I have no pictures,” said Montag. “I have all these photo albums I made for Spencer before there was Instagram and TikTok and iPhone. I will never have these (those) pictures again. All these sentimental things are just gone, you know?”
