Two people shot dead in Idaho, responding to the fire

Two people were deadly shot dead in the western state of the United States Idaho, responding to a brush fire, officials say.

Sheriff’s office County Robert Norris said at least one active shooter shoots at law enforcement agencies with a powerful rifle near the city of Core-Dalen.

“We actively accept the sniper fire when we talk,” said Sheriff Norris, adding that officers reported bullets from different directions. Residents were asked to avoid the scene on Mount Confild.

FBI deputy director Dan Bongin said the agents respond to “rendering tactical and prompt support”. Governor Brad Little said “several heroic firefighters” were attacked.

“This is a terrible direct attack on our brave firefighters,” the governor posted on X. “I ask all the aids to pray for them and their families when we expect to find out more.”

He added: “As this situation is still developing, please stay clear from the area to allow law enforcement and firefighters.”

Sheriff Norris said at a press conference on Sunday that “we don’t know if there are one, two, three or four” shooters at the scene, about four miles (6.5 km) north of the central Caura d’Alen.

“We do not know how many suspects there, and we do not know how many victims there are,” he said.

Sheriff Norris said the authorities believed that two people were killed.

“I hope someone has a clear shot and is able to neutralize because they are not at this point in showing no evidence that they want to surrender,” the sheriff added.

He told reporters that there were civilians on Mount Mount Civilians crossing with hikes and bicycle trails, so “it would be safe to assume that” others were still there.

Sheriff Norris said the call of the brush’s fire took place around 13:22 local time (19:22 GMT) on Sunday. At 2:00 pm, firefighters reported shots.

The fire of the brush still burned among the shootout.

The head of the local fire PJSC Riley told KHQ that he was “defeated” from the attack.

The County County Emergency Office sent a warning requesting to avoid the territory around the mountain of Canfield and Nettlton -Gilch.
