Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the IPG Group, the head of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Event Rights, have officially announced the completion of franchise collaborations at the IPL 2025. This decision by Sri Lanka Cricket Board ends the involvement of Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings de lanka Premier League (LPLL).
Lanka Premier League is the T20 competition in Sri Lanka T20 and has played a vital role in identifying local talent. It was launched during the pandemic and has been a platform for emerging stars such as Maheesh Theshana and Pathum Nissanka. The cricketers have been regular members of Sri Lanka’s team.
Sri Lanka Cricket brought to its official website to announce the completion of franchise collaborations with the Colombo and Jaffna Kings strikers. According to the statement, the decision was made after both franchises did not fulfill their contractual obligations in their agreements with the league.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), as the owner of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), along with the IPG group, the LPL event rights holder, wants to officially announce that the collaborations of franchises of Colombo and Jaffna Kings have been terminated,” the statement was read.
The IPG group, the LPL rights holder, reported this issue to SLC, confirming that both franchises would be replaced by a new property for the next edition of the tournament.
“The IPG group has formally informed SLC that the endings have been made due to the failure of the franchises of the respective ones to fulfill their contractual obligations, as stipulated under the agreements provided for at the beginning of its participation in the league.”
“Consequently, the next edition of the Lanka Premier League will have franchises representing Colombo and Jaffna under a new property.”
The 2024 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) ended with a final between the Wonders of Galle and Jaffna Kings. Jaffna won her fourth title in five seasons, showing her dominance in the history of the league.
The official declaration also clarified that the IPG group has full authority to transfer or reassign the ownership of the Lankue League League franchises to new parties.
“As a holder of the event rights, the IPG group retains the exclusive rights to the LPL franchise teams and, consequently, has the authority to transfer and/or assign the property rights of franchises to the interested parties.”

The Jaffna franchise has been the most successful team in LPL history. They won the inaugural title as Jaffna Stallions by defeating the Galla Gladiators by 2020. The Stallons Jaffna were received as Jaffna Kings and won three titles in the following four seasons. Kandy franchise has won only one title.
