Two Hungarians detained about the alleged spy plot

Ukraine claims to have discovered a spy net from the Hungarian, which is trying to gain exploration on its defense.

The country’s security service said it detained two alleged Hungarian spies, which were accused of collecting air defense intelligence systems.

“For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the Security Service exposed the Hungarian military intelligence network that carried out spying to the detriment of our state,” the SBU said.

Hungary is a member of the European Union and NATO – both firm allies of Ukraine – but President Victor Orban has repeatedly treated Russia since the invasion of Ukraine. The Hungarian government did not respond to claims.

The alleged spy network was created by the military intelligence of Hungary in order to collect data on the deployment of air defense systems in the Western Transcarpathian region located near the border of Ukraine with Hungary, the SBU said.

Spies also considered public sentiment among the locals to predict their reaction in the event of a Hungarian invasion, the SBU reports.

The SBU gave no sign that the plot was allegedly helping Russia.

Two people were detained by a woman and men who were former participants in the Ukrainian military, security service reported.

The alleged spies were taken into custody in their homes, the Ukrainian Interfax news agencies reported, and phones and other evidence showing that they were confiscated by spies.

The detainees are suspected of treason and life imprisonment.
