It gets more difficult for me to keep up with current TV shows as they fly. I have become very familiar and comfortable watching shows at my own leisure and speed. The weekly TV model is not something that gives me a lot of satisfaction with most shows. I would go into the weeds on that in a tick but let me say I’m watching right now Alien: Earth and Pacifist Season 2 as they fly during their respective weeks (Tuesdays and Thursdays). To be clear, I really enjoy these two shows so far. The stories they tell have my attention and I look forward to every new chapter.
However, I begin to realize that I’m probably going to like Alien: Earth and Pacifist Season 2 much more when I get a chance to binge drinking in their entirety. But, I also understand why they should be weekly statements. Better guess I am entering the weeds above.
“See you next week!” Stories Against Show-Movie-Turned
Alien: Earth and Pacifist Season 2 are not the types of TV shows that feel like deformation movies, let’s get that out of the way up the top. Many criticisms have appeared in recent years that many TV shows (especially in the Mcu) acts better as independent cinematic experiences, but their television incarnations feel like scraped butter over too much bread. I am not saying that about any of these shows.
What I will say is that the stories told are Alien: Earth and Pacifist Season 2 has to fit into a specific TV mold, the “one-time-time, the same bat channel!” A structure necessary for shows to keep people hooked and interested in the next installment. And while they have generally been effective in that cliff comment, they have felt a little limited at times by this structure. Both shows have had episodes whose endings felt almost arbitrarily just because they ran out of time.
The problem with the “all at once” model
I should also explain that I do not argue over Alien: Earth or Pacifist Season 2 to drop all their chapters at once. Netflix Having made that a specific expectation for a while, but even they realize they need to stop releasing a chapter to maximize engagement across all possible platforms. In fact, with the exception of hardly something like Midnight MassI do not think that the “everything at once” model benefits most shows in the way they are presented.
I’m proud Alien: Earth and Pacifist Season 2 is embraced by audiences, but I think I will be more exciting when they are all wrapped and I can take them in at a deliberate pace. In particular, I can’t wait for binge Alien: Earth in one sitting. This is the most refreshing record in the franchise since the first film, and as much as I enjoy watching with my friend every week, we both envisage eagerly for watching the whole thing together. I get the feeling that I will appreciate the show even more once it has left the need to tell its story in chunks.
While I think there are some shows that can continue to benefit from the weekly release model – I will always reminisce dearly about that first season A true detective And the conversations that built week to week with each episode – I think my days of following most shows every week will continue to decrease until I decrease to the west.
