India registered in comfortable six-wicket win over Ireland in Ireland’s 1st Women’s ODI tour of India at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Friday (January 10). directed by Smriti MandhanaIndia successfully chased down Ireland’s target of 239 with 93 balls to spare. Pratika Rawal‘s composed 89 i Tejal Hasabnis‘Quick-Fire 53 not out were essential to guarantee the team’s victory. Formerly the Ireland captain Gaby Lewis he played a brave knock of 92, helping his team to a respectable total of 238/7.
Rawal’s remarkable innings of 89 runs off 96 balls was the cornerstone of India Women’s run chase success against Ireland in the first ODI in Rajkot. Opening alongside Mandhana, Rawal showed his class with a measured yet commanding performance. His innings, laced with 10 boundaries and a six, ensured India stayed ahead of the required rate despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
He showed excellent shot selection and adaptability, handling the pace and turns with ease. Rawal’s 116-run partnership with Tejal Hasabnis for the fourth wicket proved decisive, rallying India after a mid-innings wobble. His ability to find gaps and turn the strike complemented his occasional power stroke, leaving the Irish bowlers scrambling for answers.
Earlier, Ireland captain Lewis led from the front with a splendid knock of 92 runs off 129 balls, providing a solid platform for her side. Lewis’ innings was characterized by his ability to hold an end while piling on runs through classy play and spot-on cuts. He found support from Read Paulwho contributed 59 valuable runs in his 117-run stand for the fifth wicket.
However, Ireland’s inability to capitalize on this partnership at the death cost them a more imposing total. Lewis fell in the 44th, trying to accelerate, leaving the Irish lower order with too much to do. Despite their efforts, a failure to hit the boundary in the finals saw Ireland finish with 238/7, a target that proved insufficient against India’s batting power.
India’s bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict Ireland to a manageable total. Sadhu tits i Deepti Sharma set the tone with early wickets, while Priya Mishra he emerged as the outstanding bowler with figures of 2/56, including the key dismissal of Lewis. Sayali Satghareon his WODI debut, he impressed with his economy, conceding just 43 runs in his 10 overs and claiming one wicket.
The bowlers were supported by strong fielding efforts, including two critical efforts that kept Ireland in check. Although there were occasional lapses in line and length, India’s bowlers adapted well to the conditions and maintained the pressure throughout the innings. This collective effort ensured that the Irish batsmen could not accelerate significantly in the closing overs, setting up a comfortable chase for the hosts.
Richa ends it with a boundary. A comprehensive win for India. Ireland never had enough on the board because of the way the track was. It started well with Mandhana and then Pratika and Tejal did well to secure almost no hiccups after two wickets had fallen quickly. #INVIRE
